| Yorkies and Baquacil or Soft Swim in pools It's that time of year and Betty Boop's first summer with us. We have a pool and use the chemical Baquacil or Soft Swim which is similar. Does anyone here have experience with letting their dog swim in this chemical? I know it is not at all like chlorine.

| we used Baquacil in our pool for years and never had a problem with the dogs. Phoebi loves to float and I'd just keep adding some water on her raft to keep her cool. on the rare occasion she'd get a mouthful or even splashed in her eyes and it was all still fine.

| Thanks! I called our pool supply store and was told it was worse for the dog to swim in the pool, as far as our chemicals go, than what the chemicals would do to the dog. She said for every ONE dog in the pool, it's like having 50 people, so the chemical balance would get WAY off and a lot of chemicals would have to be used to get the balance back. That doesn't really bother me. I just worry about the chemical hurting my dog. I'm just going to hang back and let her enjoy herself. I bought her a life jacket, too.

Do you think that they mean a larger dog equals 50 people? It's hard to believe a small yorkie could be equal to 50. I wonder if we give the babies a bath first if it will make a difference too. Also, what about regular chlorine?

| Jackson always swims in my dads pool. I have no idea the brand name of chemicals though.

| I can't see how that is correct about one dog being like 50 people - unless they are talking about hair in the drain. Sometimes those pool store people know what they are talking about and sometimes you are better off testing and maintaining chemical balance yourself. We had a pool for years and kept it spotless with baquacil . . finally had to switch to chlorine when non-chlorine sanitizers became ineffective - which they do after using them for a number of years. Anhoo, my maltese hated the pool and we finally got rid of it. I think this is a really long-winded way of saying - let your dog enjoy if they like the water and don't worry about it! There is no way it's going to throw your chemicals way off and it never hurt my dog when we used to drag him in. Have fun! It's making me actually miss my pool!
