| Why is it that... people are so obsessed with the size of their Yorkie? I was picking up Rex and Rudy from daycare the other day and this lady stops, turns around, and asks the worker there whose Yorkies those were (I was holding both of them), and then asked if those were the ones that come daily. The worker said yes. Then I put them both down so they could go speak. (although I could tell I didn't like the lady already) Rex is 3 pounds and Rudy is 2.8 pounds. Rex is 3 1/2 years old and Rudy is 6 months. Both of them, as you can tell, are very small. Of course, the next thing she asks is how much they each weigh. I told her their weight and ages, then she proceeds to tell me she has a 7 month old that's smaller than Rudy. I was thinking to myself, that's an awfully small dog, as I told her I hope Rudy gains some weight because I think she is too tiny. (BTW-- when I got Rex, the vet believed he'd make it to at least 5 pounds... I'm still waiting...) Anywhoo, I just wanted to get that off my chest!

| Lol. Idk.... I had Great Danes all my life and we never talked about whose dog was bigger Precious is 2lb 11 oz at 10 weeks. Vet says she MAY get to five pounds but the charts say above 6. Guess time will tell...

| I think so, only they brag at how large their dogs are. Gracie Ruth is only 4lbs and I get these types of comments all the time. I just say, I was waiting for her to grow more, but she was too busy with ruling the world to be bothered with growing. Cause although her body has stopped growing her attitude certainly hasn't!

| I don't know, but they do that to me too. I really don't understand it. It's like the smaller, the better. Lexi is my small one at 3 pounds, and everything makes me so nervous with her. Why would you want a 2 pound dog on purpose? I'd be terrified everytime they move! LOL

| I get that with Isabel, but almost opposite. She is a little tiny thing, short to the ground and she weighs in at almost 6 1/2 lbs. People can't believe she weighs that much, not to mention the fact that she is 7 yrs old ("She is!! So she won't grow any more?" Duh.) Now Moses is at about 5.5 lbs and he probably has 2 inches on height on Iz and is at least 3 inches longer. But, he doesn't feel thin and the vet says his weight is good since he has to bear all his weight on one front leg. People just don't know. Sometimes it is like a contest to see who has the smallest dog. I like the fact that Izzy is 6.5 lbs, she is good and sturdy - little short legs that won't break like Mosey's looong one did! (Ok, I just measured them - Isabel is 8 inches from floor to top of shoulder and about 12" long, Moses is 12"from floor to shoulder and about 14" long." |

| Awww, you've got some tiny tots! How cute!! I've noticed that people are obsessed with the size too! Our Penny is about 3.7lbs and she's about a year and a half and everyone thinks she's a puppy!! They also always ask "is she going to stay that size?" I get so tired of explaining her size haha. We're not sure how big Luna will be. We don't get her until Friday and about to jump out of my skin waiting for her!

| I know exactly what you mean! I have a 11 week old baby that is a bit over one pound and I hate it! I am scared to death to let him do anything. Always afraid he will hurt himself. He is perfect but just tiny. I cannot wait until he gets bigger. I pray that he will get bigger. I probably won't sleep or relax until he is at least 2lbs. I wouldn't give him up for anything but I sure wish he was a bit larger for my own piece of mind. I know he can't help it and I know he needs someone to take extra special care of him. The first vet I took him to said he 'wasn't wired right and he was too small'. Well that made me want to prove that vet wrong. Needless to say, I got a new, more understanding vet! Anyway I don't see the obsession with tiny ones and unfortunately mine is tiny but so special I actually wish my breeder would have kept him a while longer but I cannot let him go now

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | The only time the weight of a large dog caught my attention was my MIL's seriously over weight golden retriever...and that was only because she wanted to sit in my lap, so her weight kind of came front and center! It almost seems like a contest to see who has the smaller dog. What do you win if you do? Last edited by Rhetts_mama; 05-30-2010 at 12:34 PM. |
