| Does anyone groom their own dog? Summertime question! Hi guys. Last time I brought Poppy in to be groomed, she came out almost completely shaved. I cried my eyes out. Now she has enough hair that she is fluffy again but she needs her face trimmed and her nails trimmed. I am terrified to come at her with scissors. I bought thinning scissors from the pet store then regretted that decision. I always trim the hair around her bum, I'm sure you all know why with Yorkies...I'm just terrified to go near her with scissors. Being that it's summertime, do you guys keep Yorkies shorter than usual? Am I being selfish wanting her to have more hair? If she is going to be uncomfortable, I'll just have her cut short again. I keep putting off this decision and the hair is dripping in her eyes. I've looked up grooming videos on youtube and it looks easy, yet complicated.

| Ella hates the sound of razors buzzing so i decided to give her an all over summer cut w/ scissors. Her hair went from being about 3 inches long to an inch all over. She really likes it i think, and i do too. Ella looks very good w/ the short hair. I didn't think she'd do well w/ the scissors but she did great. I even trimmed her ears and hair around the eyes. I don't own toenail clippers, but i plan to buy some this weekend b/c the vet charges so much to clip them. I would say that you should try to trim your baby. It's a great money saving idea and good if you have a groomer that never listened like mine. Good luck!

| Thanks alot! I was hoping people wouldn't think i did an awful job. You should try it, you'll be surprised how still she sits for you. And don't be nervous she'll be able to tell.

| Molly hated the one time i took her to the groomers, so i've cut her hair since then. I always get the hair between my fingers and trim what pokes through,(hope that makes sense...kind of like hairdressers do!). By doing that, my fingers are always between the scissors and Mollys skin. Always do it when they are relaxed and sleepy. It usually takes me a week to give Molly a complete trim as i do a bit each evening when she settles down for the night. Some days she goes out looking a bit lopsided, but at least she doesnt have the trauma of going to the groomer.

| I'm WAY too afraid that I will totally butcher Jackson's hair so I have yet to do it and fork out $50 every 8-10 weeks to get him groomed professionally. But I've been lucky to find 2 really good groomers that listen to what I want. I will keep up in between sometimes by using scissors to trim the ear hair (his ear hair seems to grow faster, and makes his ears look even bigger! LOL) and the little pieces that grow into his eyes I will trim up, as well as his butt. But that's about it. Anyways, even though I don't groom myself, I prefer to keep Jackson short all year round, but I usually let it grow out a little bit in the winter time (but he's never in a long coat). I keep his tail long though and his face fuller, and body short.

| I trim Pixie's ears and butt just to keep it up in between grooming visits. I am afraid to cut her toe nails. both my girls go to the groomers once a month.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I always Groom My boys Myself There is no way I am spending $50 each dog Every couple a week's with 3 dog's. Take your time try it out Start with somewhere your can't hurt to to bad. Thinning shears are a lot better to start with Because you can't really cut her Or mess up. |
