| 1.5 yr old new yorkie / 1st time post Hello All, I'm Matt .... first post .... I recently purchased a 1.5 yr. old male yorkie for my wife and 6 yr. old daughter. This is our 2nd yorkie. Our first passed at 6 mo. because a transfer of parvo at the vet. That was 4 years ago and just now decided to get another. This male was shipped from Arkansas to Georgia to it's previous owner whom we bought from and from what i can tell was going to use him as a stud he's not neutered and it didn't work out however she also breeds english bulldogs and Chiuaua's. This has to be the skiddish dog I've ever seen. He backs away from you, runs from you if you try to hold him, shakes whenever you get near, and if you hold him he puts a death grip around your arm with his front 2 paws. If you try and pet him from the top of his head it's like he's scared. Do these seem to be signs of an abused yorkie? |

| It could be hes abused or it could be he was confined all the time and had little or no human intereaction. Just be patient with him and give him time and he will come around

| I hope he does...it did somewhat appear that he may have been confined to a double car garage with upwards to 10 or more dogs. the owner stated he was a friendly lap dog but we haven't seen that yet... however he sat still in the car the entire ride home without a carrier. <a href="IMG00056-20100524-2140.jpg picture by mswrcr29 - Photobucket" target="_blank"><img src="http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...00524-2140.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="IMG00058-20100524-2140.jpg picture by mswrcr29 - Photobucket" target="_blank"><img src="http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...00524-2140.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

| Aww poor guy. I think Chachi is right - it sounds like he hasn't had much contact with people. It's not always abuse that can cause this behavior. First, try putting your palm up when approaching him. Putting your hand palm down looks threatening. Let him sniff your hand before touching him. Don't force your contact on him. He has to have time to learn to trust you. Try letting him come to you. Give him little bits of a treat when he comes to you on his own. Giving him treats will let him associate good things when he comes to you. How's his potty habits? He might have an adjustment period here so please be patient. Never yell at him for doing it in the wrong place - you'll only cause more fear rather than wanting to please you (which is what you want). Good Luck and Welcome to YT!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congratulations. Sounds like he was never socialized and in a home environment around nice people. think giving his some space and time he will be fine.

| Welcome to YT~so glad that you have found us. I don't think that he was abused probably more likely not properly socialized. Here is a great article that might help with him. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...nt-advice.html If there is anything that I can do to help please just ask.

| Congratulations on your new yorkie and welcome to YT. I think it sounds like your little guy might be from a puppymill, and would concur with the advise to read the "Rehabbing a Puppymill Rescue..." article. Good luck and please let us know how it goes.
