| Welcome to YT, and I would find out from your breeder what food he has been on. You can change food but it has to be done gradually or you can have tummy problems. Boy's can definently rock bows, my boy wears them all the time.

| 8 weeks!? Oh wow, that's pretty young for the breeder to have placed him. (Reputable breeders generally recommend waiting until around 12 weeks.) Given his young age, for now, you should keep him on the food he was accustomed to eating while with the breeder. He needs a steady diet now while he is trying to adjust to his new home. The smallest things--a change of enviroment, new home, new food--can really throw these little guys for a loop. Research foods in the meantime and as he adjusts, gradually switch him over and try new foods. Never swap cold turkey...it could easily lead to digestive upset and even intestinal infection. Check out the Health & Diet section for more feedback. There is a sticky at the top with some of the more recommended brands for Yorkies--some companies will even send you free samples! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html Also, since your little guy is young, look up the signs of hypoglacemia. (I can never spell that right.) Learn some warning signs and how to prevent it as Yorkies are prone to it when they are pups. Welcome to YT! Last edited by BamaFan121s; 05-20-2010 at 09:14 AM. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Welcome to YT!!!! I got my litle Bella @ 8 weeks... she is such a doll. She ate Royal Canine, Weaning to puppy- its meant for puppies right after they stop drinking moms milk. I would be careful though because the breeder should have given you the food he has been eating, so because he.she didn't you have to ease her into the new food you end up choosing otherwise he might get sick (vomit, diarhea) Also another thing to be careful about is hypoglycemia because your pup is only 8 weeks old. I am no expert but because Bella was so young she suffered from this and almost died! So be careful make sure she eats and drinks plenty. We also gave her nutri cal which is a supplement filled with calories and important essenitals to prevent hypoglycemia. If you have any questions, you can ask me anytime!!! Bella is now 5 months old and we have had many experiences together. Enjoy and make sure you take a lot of pics!!

| Hola buena, welcome to yt, you already had some good advice here, I will be careful to take him outside since he has not all his vacc yet, also flea and tick season too, (well here on Cali); also have you take him to the vet yet? just to make sure he is ok, does the breeder give you some kind of health warranty? some give you, one or even two years, anyway, take it easy on the sugar, nutrical or nutristart, is best for him just a little and only if necessary, you can get it on Petco or Petsmart. When you have time will like to see some pictures, congratulations!!!

| Welcome! I have a male and a female yorkie. My female hates bows and will take them out as soon as I put one in. My male does not care at all so he rocks them all the time!
