| Confinement Although we don't cage Chloe and she has her own bedroom ( we use gates in the doorway ) we keep her contained during the day while at work ( 8-ish hours ) for safety concerns. Do you keep your pup contained while gone or do they roam freely all day through the house? I'm just wondering if this is an option as she get's older. So far, if we've gone to dinner or anything for short periods of time, we have left her out. I just feel bad confining her, even to a bedroom. Might be my issue and not hers though! lol Thanks! |

| My kidz roam free in the tiled areas...the carpeted areas are no fly zones for them!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I do exactly as you do....Bridget ( almost 7 months old) has her own room (which she sometimes messes up so bad you'd think my daughter moved back home...lol)and is double gated (one on top of the other), only because I don't want the cats (who are 20lbs) jumping over the gate just in case they get to playing too rough. We have left her out at night, and all day during the weekends she has free run of the house. On the weekends when she wants to nap - she just goes to her room and crawls in her bed.....that is HER space, and she certainly lets you know it. I, like you hope to be able to let her have free run of the house one day, but our cats litter boxes are in the basement, and I'm terrified she'll attempt the stairs (or miss a turn while speeding through the house and take a tumble down). So for now while I'm at work she stays in her room, with everything she needs....but boy do I feel guilty!!!

| My two have the run of the house - one level - just 2 bedroom - (my husband I have downsized!) I keep pee pads out every doorway that goes outside, and in the little bedroom because Lizzie is just 5 months old and goes outside and on pads. Mr. Darcy is 1-1/2 and he only goes outside. He doesn't go in the house at all now. They are usually alone for about 8 hours - only in the summer when I work. I hope I can get Lizzie to eventually only go outside too!!

| Better confined, than to come home to a hurt yorkie Just think how big a room (even a bathroom) is to them, according to their size. Anyway, I bet they nap all day and don't even care. If they get used to it when they are young, thats all they know, it is their routine, and they feel safe in their space. So don't feel bad. |

| Nope, Chloe stays in her pen whenever I'm gone for more than a few minutes. I used to feel slightly guilty when I worked and she was in the pen for four hours at a time (I'd come home at lunch). But now that I'm between jobs, I'll leave her out when I run down to the mail box or something and I can tell she doesn't really like to be left. I think she's so used to going in the pen when we're gone that she's not sure what to do or expect when left on her own. She doesn't really have separation anxiety, but I get the feeling it just confuses her. I leave her at my mom's sometimes and she always sits by the door and howls a few times after I leave or runs around the house looking for me, but after a few minutes she's fine. So I worry she might be worse if she wasn't in her safe place when I leave and there was no one home to distract her. She just sleeps anyway. Plus, like SweetLips said, I don't want to come home to find a Yorkie whose hurt or stuck or something. They are so small and too brave for their own good. Also, we live in an apartment and even though we are supposed to be notified if the landlords are going to come in for anything, I don't want to count on that. I don't trust Chloe not to run out the door or panic or something if strangers came in while I was gone. -C
