| Chipperdancing, you are such a compassionate and caring person and to suffer thru the loss of an animal must be so heart-breaking for you. That is one of the things that makes you a great Yorkie momma. |

| This post is 10 years old but wanted to bump it as we had a scare last night related to this. My husband bought a box of suet blocks and had it setting inside by our back door. When we weren't looking Guinness actually tipped the box over and pulled out 2 of them...chewed the plastic away and licked away at them before we caught him. He definitely had a sick tummy for a while and threw up a little...we kept an eye on him throughout the evening and he was fine. He woke up perky and his usual self but really scared us! One more thing to be in tune to with these curious little things!!

| You know, we try to think of every conceivable thing these little fellas can get into.....this one was COMPLETELY out of my wheel house! I guess that is because I am no longer a big bird feeder person....it draws too many rats at night and squirrels all day long, and I dont like these critters running around in my yard or getting into my garage. I DO recall hanging one of those bell shaped things covered with seeds, years ago....have no recollection if that seed was stuck to suet or something else......but thanks for bumping this to the forefront.....this is really great information to know!! |

My husband loves to feed the birds but this is something I didn't even give a thought to myself. I feel like I am all over any potential threat usually. I couldn't believe this little 4 pounder tipped over and pulled them out of the box...it was a pretty solid box too. That suet must have smelled too good to leave alone! UGH. One of the less obvious threats to now be aware of!

He bought it because he planned to feed it to the birds...apparently he didn't realize it was for winter month feeding only. It's since been thrown out.

| I don't want to put out a bird feeder because I'm afraid that all those smaller birds will attract hawks, and I don't want hawks to get into the habit of hanging around where my dogs play. I saw one on my back fence eating a small bird, yuk.

| Guys you are all so sweet and caring, but read post 33 this is an old thread, the person that started this thread and lost her pup did so in 2005 and has not been on YT since 2006. But it is good information to learn from that is why Bellajayne pulled it up from the archives

We used to put corn on the cob out for the squirrels, before we had dogs. Then we realized that the cobs were being dragged into other yards where they could be a danger to dogs, so we stopped.
