Donating YT 500 Club Member | Bridgets kibble trick Bridget is being a real little stinker about eating her kibble, she just won't eat it. I've been doing a ton of reading here and have found several great suggestion as to how to make it more appetizing for her. One suggestion was to sprinkle it with parmesan cheese.....well it worked. She runs right over when I put her plate down, except now I have tiny brown/wet kibble all over my kitchen floor from where she sucks off the cheese and spits out the kibble....LOL - I want to be upset, but can't help but smile at how much like a little skin kid she really is!!!

| Cute, but smart! I think she's telling you she doesn't like the kibble. What kind is it?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | She came to me eating ProPlan, which I read is not the best, so when she turned up her nose at it I wasn't upset, and thought it would be my chance to try to get her on something better. I tried Blue Buffalo, Natures Variety and now Artemis has been kind enough to send me some samples - which she once again turned up her nose at. I have tried the cheese as mentioned, and chicken broth with no success. I was beginning to think that it might be her teeth (she has approx 8 baby teeth that are coming out tomorrow during her spay....I'm super nervous - but that's a whole other thread), but she will eat the cats hard food and soft (if she can get away with it), and turns up her nose at any of her own soft food, from some of the most expensive I can find right down to Ceasers! She will occassionally eat Chef Michaels Tenderloin! But that's it. Loves eggs, and real chicken, and raw carrots, and if I try to mix she will either not eat any or pick around her food for the real stuff. There was a thread posting all the companies that will send samples, and I have contacted them all. I have received e-mails back stating they are sending samples out, and a few who do not have samples are sending $5 coupons. So I'm at a loss - any other suggestions would be very appreciated. Oh and by the way - she will eat any of it if she thinks it's a treat...if I reward her for bringing her toy while playing fetch and give it to her one at a time, or if I feed her the soft food from a SPOON!!! I've tried different plates/bowls/dishes. Tried to feed her on the same plate as the cats food....nothing doing!!! Oh, knowledgeable yorkie moms and dads please help - I'm totally opened to anything!

| She might like Merricks - my dogs liked all of their flavors including Grammies Pot Pie and they are very good. I feed all of my crew Canidae

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thanks Donna - I'll give it a shot. Honestly, some of this food looks so good that I think if I opened it and microwaved it in a bowl I don't think my fiance' would know the difference (doesn't say much for my cooking now does it)!

| It sounds like you have tried so many differnt kinds already. I know that when I was jhaving troubles getting my Daisy Mae to eat I finally found she would eat purina puppy chow(bad I know, but she would actually eat it) She ate that for about 3 weeks then I was able to get her on Natural Balance. It seemed to take forever to get her on a decent food but she loves it now |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thanks Brenda - Yesterday I spoke with the lady that rescued Bridget (trying to get some reassurance about this spay that's happening tomorrow) and told her what was going on ( I try to send pics, e-mails, etc.) and she suggested the same. She said it's a little on the sweet side and she may like that, until she gets into the habit of actually eating as a meal. I guess I want so bad to do the right thing that I'm not sure what that is anymore. Thanks so much for responding - I so value all the input that is given here - not only to my post but to all that I read. It's amazing how much knowledge and understanding this one site holds!

Thor's Human Donating Member | My Thor is EXACTLY the same way. I just posted a thread where I tried seasoning his food with powdered beef liver. He spent fifteen minutes licking every single one of his kibbles to get the liver specks, and then ate like three kibbles. I do think for him that some of it is related to his teeth. He doesn't like to chew stuff. I had no success at all with some of the top-rated kibbles, and I think it was because they were so big. I have him on Halo now, which he grudgingly eats. The Halo kibbles are pretty small.

But after reading on this site, I switched to the better brands and she turned her nose up no matter what brand. Ohhh.....the looks she used to give me (and still gives me when I feed her). You know the look "what is this crap you feeding me". So far Natural Choice is the only brand that she will eat consistently and even then I have to switch up flavors or she will stop eating. She had no problem with the cat food so I moved the cat food up high where she can't get to it. | |
