Donating YT 4000 Club Member | What age to start going to groomers? How old should Rhett be before I take him to the groomers for the first time? I have bathed him on my own and plan on keeping him in the puppy cut just for ease. His nails were trimmed by the vet at our last visit. Should I wait until after his last set of puppy shots (16 weeks) or is that still too early? I don't want to overwhelm him, but I also don't want to put it off too long.

| Once he has all his shots, it is best to get him used to the groomer right away. What I did was set up an appt. for my puppy when no one else would be there, I only had her bathed, brushed out, and a sanitary & face trim... I stayed with her... this way she wasnt there very long, like she would be for a whole haircut but she got used to all the sounds of the equipment, etc. Then the next time I had a little more done and I left but I left my older dog with her, so that she would have someone familiar there. Even now I always take them together so that they have each other and I only leave them for as long as it takes for them both to be groomed. Good Luck!

| Once he's had all his puppy shots and a clean stool check you should be good to go. If your worried about him being overwelmed look for a groomer that lets you stay with him during, and maybe start introducing things like scissors and maybe an electric razor so he gets used to the sound to him to ease him into it. Pann doesn't like it, and last time my mom and I shaved him ourselves it took a long time but it was worth it being able to give him time to relax and to become more comfortable with the tools. good luck!!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | That's a great tip about finding a groomer who will let me stay with him and making an appointment for a slow time! A high maintenance puppy is a new thing to me... I've always been able to do my dogs myself or had short haired dogs, so I've been getting recommendations from friends (none of whom have yorkies). I'll add that criteria on when I start calling.
