Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Hi...if your looking for a yorkie - you could start by putting an ad in the yorkie for SALE or WANTED Section - plus I know someone in Canada who JUST had 6 puppies who will be ready in 8-10 weeks or so..... |

| So sweet looking for a furbaby!!!! I'm sure you will find one. Ask lots of questions!!!! And the Breeder should ask you lots of questions too. I would PM Villette, and ask about her friend. It's always best when you know someone who knows the Breeder. Please keep us posted!!

| If you have an inside track with Villette, that would be good. You could go on the YTCA website and look for a breeder. Avoid pet shops and be careful with newspaper ads and the web. Please be sure you can spend quality time with a yorkie, if that is the breed you want, they do need it. Try to get as much family history as possible and go to the breeder's home, look at the sire and dam and see how the pups interact with each other and you. Don't pay much attention to expected weight, most breeders won't guarantee anyway. If there are dog shows in your area, that's a good way to pursue getting a pet. Your breeder should ask you a ton of questions, as well and give you about 48 hours to have your puppy vet checked. People on this site are very knowledgeable and there are several breeders. Good luck. You can't have just one, you know. |

Tail docking is when a yorkies tail is cut shorter by the breeder usually. It's awful and has been banned in the uk but still goes on unfortunately. Some people seem to prefer shorter tails on yorkies and although mine has a docked tail I would have prefered him to have a normal one, it wasn't my choice. as for dew claws being removed I'm not familiar with this as mine has them and they haven't been a problem. | |

| Things I have learned having owned a yorkie for eleven years in March. Yorkies seem prone to tummy upsets so need a routine with food and a diet of just dog food. If you give them human food or too many tit bits and they get tummy troubles it's easier to eliminate what caused it rather than having to change diets to see if the tummy trouble improves. Mine did get Collitis, which yorkies are also prone to, which is basically inflamatory bowel disease but I have got this under control with homeopathic medicines and he hasn't had trouble for two years. My yorkie still has ALL his teeth, has NEVER needed a dental as they are brushed every night before bed and so he can still enjoy crunchy dog food if he feels like it. If theres one piece of advice I can give you is look after it's teeth. My dog was very allergic to dog toothpaste and so I use warm water with a pinch of salt added. Males can get prostrate problems as mine did and so he was castrated at eight years of age and this solved the problem. When he was small he had milk teeth retention, thats when the large top or botton front fangs don't fall out and the new ones grow next to them, the baby ones were removed by a vet. |

| The dew claw is that extra claw a dog may or may not have when born. The reason it is removed is because it just kind of hangs, there is no movement in it. The nail grows on it and if the nail has not been trimmed short , it can easily get caught up in something such as the carpet or on a knitted sweater, blanket, etc., and be very painful. |
