| No Vet Trip and a Good laugh My roommate emailed me at work yesterday and said while bathing Lily she felt a huge lump on her behind. She glanced and seen a fleshy substance, but Lily dances around so much, she could not tell how bad it was. So I contacted my superiors to inform them of my dilemma and got the rest of the afternoon off. I raced home as I had an appointment with the vet within the hour. Driving was sickening slow as I envisioned what this horrible growth could be, praying fervently she did not have cancer. ( Lost my Cassie to it). Well I slammed my car into park and lit into the house. I had my roommate hold her so I could get a quick look at this mass growing on her behind. I started laughing hysterically. This huge lump was her little whoohoo, all swollen, because she was coming into HEAT. LOL My poor roommate was so embarrassed. LOL She had never had a female dog, nor any dog, but the ones she's been exposed to were male. She did not know they would swell up like that. I was relieved to say the least!!

| Haha!! I totally feel for your roommate! I've only had female dogs as a small child when you didn't notice things like that (should have seen my parents trying to explain to a five year old why the two dogs were stuck together....) As a teenager and adult, we just had male dogs. Now Chloe is female and I've absolutely loved having a little girl. However, half the reason I got her spayed before her first heat was because I didn't know what to expect and figured it was just easier to avoid it altogether!! I would probably have had the exact same reaction as your roommate! -C

| Wow, that is funny! But I sure hope you are planning on spaying her soon. Sorry to hear about Cassie. What kind of cancer did she have?

Thanks everyone and I'm glad you all got a kick out it as I did. I'm not planning to spay Lily yet. I have not decided what I will do at this point. I know all the good, the bad and the ugly as I've owned Yorkies nearly 20 years now. Cassie was 9 and kept digging at her neck. Frequent trips to the vet to tell me she had allergies. The last few times I told the vet that I thought there was a lump in her neck area. He assured me I was ....... uhmm mistaken....no lump. This went on for a year..or a bit under. Then one Sat she seemed to really be digging at herself ( after shots, food changes, etc) I went to another vet just to see what they said. In two minutes that vet said, well she had a lump in her neck glad and we will need to biopsy. My heart sank as she relayed that if this was what she thought it was, it was not a good outcome. She also noted she had a mammary tumor. O......k.......... So biopsys took place and the dreaded call came in after the lab results confirmed it as a fast moving lymphatic cancer. They said they could keep her somewhat comfy for the next six weeks. I was heartbroken when I said, well she is digging at it like it itches. The vet looked at me with sadness and said I am so sorry to relay this, but she is not itching, she is in pain!. I was heartsick. I put her down the next Sat. I had to have my son drive me, as I knew I would be unable too. My 6foot 4" baby boy held me, while I held Cassie and they administered what would be the drug to cease her last breath. I don't think I've ever been so heartsick in my life and I was wracked with sobs I could not contain, but I was determined my little girl would have the one person who loved her most, be with her when she went to Rainbow Bridge. We had to stay for quite a while I held the little treasure that had given me so much happiness in those 9 years and had a hard time believing my little love bug was gone. Plus the anger that I did not follow my gut so many months previous when I felt that lump. So all this was swirling in my brain as I raced home to face another heartwrenching experience, but as you can tell, the laughter just poured out as the relief swept over me.......LOL
