| Male or Female - training Hi, Not too new to Yorkie Talk...I had the user name Sandie48....which I couldn't remember and couldn't find it in any of my email (oops...will delete it and continue with this one) Anyways, still looking for a Yorkie, but getting very close. Have found a wonderful 10 month old female at Nic Nak Yorkies, but my husband is kind of partial to a male. He was told males are easier to train. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks |

| By no means am I an expert, but I chose a female because I heard of males marking their territory...and not to mention their red rocket coming out to play, and humping things. I have two boys and If u count my husband it would be 3 ha-ha and there is enough testosterone in my house anyway. But after reading some posts on YT I heard some females mark & hump too and boys can be real mama boys and very loveable! luckily so far allie has not done these things, good luck with whatever u decide mine has become the best little dog ever! |

| Thanks for that....I sure had a good laugh. I managed to search and find more on the subject and general consensus is that it all depends on the dog. Some males are better and some females, it just depends on the individual itself. So I pretty much have my answer on the subject. Thanks and look forward to getting our little one soon. Will post pics when we do! |

| I prefer boy dogs for some reason. I think it's just a preference. I had female dogs all my life and don't get me wrong, they were all great dogs and very much loved, but they were always more independent, stubborn and wanted things their way (gee, sounds like humans, right? ) and Jackson is my 1st male dog. He's been super easy to train because he's so willing to please and very food motivated! I will probably own male dogs for the rest of my life now I also dogsit for 2 male Boxers often and they are just sooo loving and follow me everywhere and always wanna be close to me, as well as my moms friends 2 boy dogs I sit for, they are the same way. I love my boy dogs! Jackson got neutered at 6 1/2 months old and has never marked indoors, on a person, on another dog, or anything. He lifts his leg outside on trees where other dogs have been etc but he squats to pee. He humped a lot before he got neutered, but the only thing he will hump now is this 1 teddy bear... my dads spayed female dog humps way more than him! So, it can go both ways! I think it's just a matter of preference. Some people love having the girls to dress up (they have more clothes options lol) and some people don't like dealing with the 'jewels' hanging around (haha! - that's why my dad never liked male dogs before, he thought it was gross that their stuff was just all hanging out, lol)

| I've always had females too but recently got a male and like Brit said, he is very food motivated (my girls are not!) and he is very eager to please. The girls love me and want to please but you can see the difference. I was just telling this story today and it kinda explains the difference, Zoe gets on my bed, loves to sleep there and sleeps at my feet. Mickey gets on my bed and wants to snuggle up with his head on my pillow and underneath my covers like a baby. But I also do agree that each one is an individual. |

| I love the boys!!! Kaji isn't food or toy motivated at first, just pleasing me was enough to train him. I love how much he loves me. The "red rocket" really isn't something that I love, as he does show it often, but I wouldn't generalize. Not all dogs are the same. Kaji doesn't hump at all.

| I have a girl and I can say that Bailey was very easy to train, loveable and is food motivated. She was potty trained in 2 mos and is leash free. She's absolutely the most perfect dog!! I believe that as long as you are the alpha and are consistient about being the alpha - then the dog will not be confused and will naturally want to please. It has as much to do with the owner as it does the dog. Good luck!!!

| I have both and I have to say, they aren't that different. They both are doing excellent as far as potty training goes. Jaxon was easier to train to ring the bell than Bri, but honestly, its more on their personality. If you are consistent, training should be about the same with both of them. Now personality wise, boys are a lot more loving and wanting to please you, girls are just as loving but also have little attitudes. Good Luck! |

| If you have a male neutered at 6 months of age, he will not hike and mark territories.

| thanks for the comments, some quite entertaining to say the least. As I post this, my husband is out of town looking at a Yorkie female on his way home from work. She is the one I would like to get, so we shall see what he thinks. Wish me luck |

| Joey and Tank each learned sit, stay, lay down, and touch in about 5 minutes per trick. I would say that they are quite easily trained! Potty training, on the other hand...it's not marking/peeing - they NEVER do that in the house, but they have taken quite a long time to not poop in the house. I think they have it now, knock on wood We don't have any girls, but Joey is more independent, and Tank is a COMPLETE mammas boy...he clings to me whenever I'm home, haha.
