How funny!!! I went to my uncles not too long ago and he has halfmoon and at first I thought it was cute. But after a while ziggy would not shut up!!! I was hearing Oye chika. oh o, and it wasn't me,,,,, in my sleep. Every time anyone would pass by he would say Oye chika. I must have heard that about 1000 times in the few hours that I was there.

LOL That is so funny. My sister had a bird that mocked the dogs barking. It drove her crazy, But it was funny at the same time.

Awe MANNNNNNNNN I have spent all week trying to teach my macaw to bark with NO luck. I've sung the song "How much is that doggie in the window", at least a zillion times the past few days...LOL

She will dance when i sing it and she bobs her head when the woof woof part comes in but so far no barking

Oh by the way to the person who posted about the big beaks and being scared..... My 5 year old can hold the macaw with no problem since the day we got it! BUT... we also have Senegal parrots which are 1/10thth the size and their bit hurts WORSE then the big macaws . Macaws really have to be prevoked to bite HARD. They will nip and close their beaks on things but the tiny little parrots will chomp you and it HURTSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
of course I'm talking in general and there is usually always an adjustment time.

WOW! I always looked at those Macaw beaks, and thought --no way! That is interesting to know. Keep singing and he will come out with it one of these days! Usually when you are good and tired of saying the phrase, they decide they will say it! HA !

When my son was little we had a dog he name Smokey and a cockatiel named Fred. Cockatiels aren't great talkers, but some of them learn a good bit. Anyway, Fred learned to bark and to call, "'Mokey, 'Mokey!" He couldn't make an "S". But he sure confused the dog!

It's funny what you TRY to teach them and what the birds will pick up on their own. My friend has one that mimics his answering machine message....you know...."you've reached blah, blah, blah" This bird even beeps when he reaches the end

How funny. How long does it take to teach a parrot to talk. Wasn't there a commercial on TV about a parrot calling "here kitty kitty".

Great stories of the birds! As to how long it takes to teach a bird to talk, the first phrase takes a little while. After that they pick words up a lot quicker. I can tell when my bird likes what I am trying to teach him, because he gets real attentive, and keeps saying "What" or Huh? If he doesn't like the word, he will turn his back on me. I never realized they were as smart as they are! Everytime I start the microwave, he will start saying, "Mmmmm, Yummie!" And believe you me, he keeps it up until he gets something warm to eat. When he wants out of his cage, he will yell, "Come on, Come on, Come on, Pat" They certainly use words in the right context! If poor little Snoodles is making too much noise playing, he will yell "Don't Do That! Don't you do that! Bad Dog!"
