YT Addict | Alpha dog?? My Gabby, age 6 months, is definitely the alpha dog over little Tyler, 4 months. She is constantly taking away his chew toy, even if she has one just like it. I even saw her the other day with both bones in her mouth. It was quite funny. She looked like she had 2 cigarettes sticking out of her mouth. Even tho I feed them from 2 different bowls, she is constantly running back and forth between bowls, and poor Tyler just sits there like he is asking her permissionto eat, or waiting until she is done so he can eat. My heart breaks for him. I know this is nature, but does anyone else have this problem?

| I have a 13 year old Bichon who has always been alpha (but very kind never aggressive) I have a 3 year old huskie who is large and now a 11 week old female Yorkie I could totally see if we did not set up some order her taking over. The two other dogs are males but very gentle ones. We love her but quickly realized we as the humans need to set some order. She easily could dominate the whole house. |

| there are so many ways to deal with this, I know some on the board say to intervene, while others will say to let them work it out. I can only share what happened with my two. We got Samson and when he was 6 months old we decided to get another one, Harley. Har was only 1.8lbs when we brought him home and he walked in the door knowing he was the alpha mail. He did the same thing with the food, took all the toys and wanted to rule the roost. I actually didn't bond with Harley right away because Sam was my baby and I felt like this little beast was taking over our lives. What I saw was never agressive so I decided to let them work it out for the most part. it took several months for them to work it out but we have had both dogs for over a year now and Samson knows how to hold his own when he needs to. Har is still Alpha but there are times when Sam will put him into his place. At first Sam couldn't stand each other and now they are two peas in a pod.

| I don't believe members mean let them work it out when one is a baby...and not letting one eat is not good. I would feed one in the xpen and one in the open. Toys are different and I would let them work it out..

YT Addict | I know, I always stand between them to be sure Tyler gets to eat. Most of the time it is about the chew bones. Other then that, they are the best of friends.
