Default being away from your yorki

I always wondered what about this

What happens if :

You leave somewhere for a long time like 1-2 years to study abroad , or grad school , or move out ... but visit your yorkie once in a while

will they still remember your or forget you?
will they know who you are and recognize you?
seeing as how you would smell differently because of the environment your in

MY friend told me when he left his family poodle and came back 2 years later the dog looked at him came a few inches his way .. stared him straight in the eyes and turn back and walked away... the times that he did visit the dog she did not acknowledge he was one of her owners.. she thought is was a stranger... the dog was actually his and his families but he had to move out and the dog continued living with the family

My friend couldn't find an apartment that would take dogs, and she is studying her masters right now so she left the dog with her parents.

I'm pretty sure he knows her because everytime she's home, the dog destroys something of hers- only hers. It's like she knows that her owner abandoned her and is reminding her or something?

I don't know.

I thought you were going to post about going on vacation for a week or two. I honestly hope that I am never in the situation where I would have to be separated from Kaji for that long. I wouldn't be able to deal with it and I'd probably die of a broken heart and loneliness. Are you away from your sweet baby yorkie?

I was gone from home for almost 20 months one time when I was 18-19, and when I got back home, our Boxer at the time went asolutely nuts. He remembered, and went and got his favorite throw toy in the basement that we used to use. He did not pick it up the entire time I was gone.

Yes,but what about yorkies in particular. I know yorkies are very sensitive dogs and the kind that don't like to be left alone.especially don't like it when one of their owners goes away for some time..mthey are more emotional..how would a yorkie respoNd. Anyone had that situation with a yorkie?

Thanksyou all for your answers.they did. But I'm wondering about yorkie's in particua

We leave our Yorkie with our daughter.....and yes, they will miss you and mope. When my wife who travels a lot on business is gone for a few days, the dogs (Yorkie and Cane Corso) just basically stay in her office. When she comes home, they go nuts, absolutely nuts. When I leave for a Hog Hunt, they all have a party! When I return, they both pop out for a fast hello, and then back into my wifes office. Oh well!

Yes, they are very sensitive little dogs and will miss you. We could not leave the Yorkie at a Boarding Facility.

I always thought dogs remembered their owners. Maybe some just
forget about them out of anger because they left them.
My dog pal, mixed breed, never forgot me. When I got married and moved
out of state, he stayed with my father who loved him and had a house.
When I returned about 8months later Pal went nut's when he saw me.
I really think most remember.

Anyone have seen Hachiko: A Dog's Story with Richard Gere? OMG, talk about crying my eyes out. Richard Gere's character and this dog found each other when he was a young pup, and he took him in. They formed an incredible bond. The dog did not ever want him to leave and would follow him to the train station every day, to see him off to work. Then he would arrive back promptly for his owner to get off the train and be SO happy to see him. Well, the owner dies and has a heartattack while at work, never coming home off the train... the dog waited there for NINE years... he would always find a way to escape the yard and go back to the train station. TRUE story, based off of a Japanese dog. Beautiful, yet sad, story and good for any dog lover to check out!

So anyways, YES, they will remember you, I think.

The longest I've been away from Jackson is 5 days... but he's always just super excited to see me again!

My 3 children are grown up now and live away from home. My youngest comes home only every 10 weeks, and Molly goes crazy over him. My other 2 children come back every couple of months and she goes equally as crazy over them!
She goes very quiet for a while when they have all been home and then gone again. After we have waved them off i take Molly for a long walk (with me trying hard not to cry!) and we both have a treat when we get back!

I did not even know that movie was out. I heard about that dog years ago. Will have to get the movie. Was the dog in it a Tosa? My dogs have better memories than I do, that is a fact. Smarter too, and my wife says better looking!

Yup, it's out. I think it went straight to DVD though. Gere is in it and Jason Alexander (I think that's his name). A really simple plot basically just showing the bond between a man and his dog. The dog was played by an Akita, just like the real like Hachiko. I would definitely check it out! Any dog lover must watch and it's known to have grown men in tears just a warning!

I remember seeing a picture of that dog waiting in the train station. It was so sad. The dog died there, I think. I didn't know, either, they made a movie. How interesting...
