| Different types I'm looking into getting a yorkie or Maltese but leaningore towards a yorkie. I have been googling pictures of them and I noticed that some have fuller/rounder faces and some have small heads and pointy noses. Does it all depend on the mom and dad? And if possible can you please show me a baby pic and a 1 year old pic of your furbaby? I want a darker colored dog I'm assuming the breeder will be able to tell me what color it will turn out. Thanks! |

| I actually don't know about the differences. I was thinking it might be breeding related as well. Although I'm not at all very experienced with Yorkies, I have read somewhere on this forum that yorkies are known for having unpredictable coat colors. I'll bump this back to the first page, maybe a more experienced member can answer your questions ... Also, I know there is another threat about the differences between Maltese and Yorkies here somewhere. You might try searching for that for more information.

| If your choice is between a maltese and a yorkie, I would say you might want to go for the maltese. I say this because you expressed concern about what color your pet would eventually turn out to be, and Yorkies are a breed where the color of their fur will change after you have already made a commitment to them. Yes, looking at the parents may be helpful, but it is no guarantee as to whether they will be light or dark. My Daisy is a parti-carrier (she has white on her chin and chest) who had a very dark face, but at 9 months this is all turning a much lighter gray and tan. You just never know with a Yorkie! Welcome to YT!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | There are definitely differences in facial structure and it does depend on the parents. Coats, like size are not always accurate with predictions, but with a reputable exhibitor breeder your chances of getting the adult yorkie you're looking for are much better than buying from a less educated breeder (most byb's), pet store or puppymill. This is a recent thread with puppy - to- adult pictures. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...cs-please.html

| It depends on the parents yes but not always. When it comes to size, Jackson's parents were 8 and 9lbs and he's now over 12lbs at 1 year old. He was all black and tan as a puppy and now at over 1 year old, he's all silver on back... A standard yorkie should definitely look a certain way, but yorkies not always follow standard due to many things... genetics, bad breeding, etc. My boy is far from standard but I love him to death and he's a wonderful dog. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better dog, I really have no complaints. Originally, I wanted him to stay all black and I was sad when he started changing but now I love it and get so many compliments on his hair. First 2 pics were 9 weeks old Last 2 pics are over 1 year old now.
