| I live in a "commuter" town just north of Tampa, so I guess this counts: Tampa’s Most Popular Breeds 2009 1. Yorkshire Terrier 2. Labrador Retriever 3. German Shepherd Dog 4. Golden Retriever 5. Boxer * Registration data pulled from Tampa zip codes as specified by U.S. Postal Service "This year the Yorkshire Terrier overtook the Labrador Retriever to become Tampa’s most popular breed," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "This is a mighty feat for such a tiny terrier, since the Labrador Retriever has ranked number one nationally for 19 consecutive years." |

| In my area the most popular would probably be Border Collie or Labs.

| Chicago was the closest town to us on the list and it isn't even close...it had #1 Lab...#4 Yorkie. If I had to speak for my town though I would have to agree with the lab being first...we're in farm country and it's hard to get people to change the way they think about a dog. |

| in st. louis, yorkies didn't even make the list maybe that is why mine is always the littlest at the dog park?? Wish they had some other little dogs to play with!

| Yup -- I'm close to Baltimore where Yorkie is #2. Labrador Retriever is #1. It makes sense 'cause I always see at least one other Yorkie at the dog park.

| Wow that was interesting. Our city has Yorkie as the #2 dog. Could have fooled me, I hardly ever see yorkies around.

| Before I look at the link, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that a Shih Tzu will be at the top of the list for my area...because it seems like EVERYONE has one. Lots of Schnauzers too. Now, let's see if I'm right.... Nevermind...B'ham is not one of the options. Acutally, there are no AL cities on the list. The mystery will live on, I suppose. | Yorkie #5, but I'm surprised to see bulldog as #1. no way. There's just that one skateboarding one and that's it. Labs #2 yes they are everywhere! Los Angeles’ Most Popular Breeds 2009 1. Bulldog 2. Labrador Retriever 3. Golden Retriever 4. German Shepherd Dog 5. Yorkshire Terrier * Registration data pulled from Los Angeles zip codes as specified by U.S. Postal Service "Angelenos pride themselves on their uniqueness and originality, and they lived up to that by making L.A. the only city to have the Bulldog rank as most popular dog," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "Despite the top four dogs being large breeds, a number of smaller pooches fill out the Top 10, including the Yorkie, Maltese, French Bulldog and Poodle, perhaps due to their prevalence as companions to the stars."
