| Leaving my baby for the first time... I feel a bit silly about this, but if anyone can understand, I know someone here will. We are going away for 6 days and are boarding Roxie at the vet's office. I had a friend lined up to take her, but she backed out, and we had no other choice. I get so upset every time I think about Roxie sitting in that little cage all day by herself. I was crying about it before, and my boyfriend thought I was nuts. Is there anything I can do to make this easier? I don't want our trip to be ruined by me obsessing over the dog the whole time.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Do you have any day cares in your area that also board dogs? You might want to check that option. It would be far better than the vet's office. That's when I started looking. Couldn't bear the thought of her in that little cage at the vet's.

| I agree with the above poster. Find a relative, or if that is not possible, a private boarding facility where they are walked, given play time, free time, and someone around the entire time. My wife is the same as you are, but we have a terrific daughter that steps up and watches the Yorkie, while the Cane Corso goes to his training facility that he loves. I am convinced that my wife would cancel a trip if she had to have Maxine sitting in a cage all day, even though, they will most likely do a great job. I think she frets more over the dogs now than she did when the kids were small....but the dogs never get mad at you, and are always in by curfew! See what you can find, and have a great vacation. |

| I would be a wreck as well. I would try to find a relative as well or even a friend that you trust. Sending prayers your way that everything goes smoothly and your baby does fine while you are away!

| I would be a mess as well. I've always been lucky enough to have family watch Jackson, but if for some reason they couldn't, I would definitely use a daycare in the area. I was a wreck the first time I left Jackson... he was about 4 1/2 months old and I went to a planned Disney vacation for 5 nights. I missed him sooo much, and I cried when I drove away from the house by myself.

| I know in my area, there are professional dog walkers that also do overnight sitting. There are a couple of people in my complex that have used them and loved them. I hate to leave for the store knowing Twinkie will miss me. Good luck! |

| So far, Starr travels with us, most places have lodging that is puppy friendly and the puppy can fly in the cabin with you as a carry on. |

I would def look into daycare or the option of a pet sitter. and no worries on the crying, the first time I ever left Sam was to go to Walmart. I cried when I left, on the way there, ran thru there like a mad woman, and came back to a sleeping lil Yorkie

| I'm still almost that bad. It doesn't bother her at all. It's me who feels guilty.

| I would be devastated to leave Mr.Darcy at a vets - in a cage - I always 'think' as I think he 'thinks'! if you know what I mean! If you can't leave him somewhere (and can't take him) what about someone you know and trust to come and stay at your place? I, too, take Mr.Darcy with me - in cabin on flights. I used to take Toffee everywhere, too. We used to sneak her in hotel rooms under my coat, if they weren't 'pet friendly'!

| I agree with everyone that daycare might be a better option. Are you in NYC proper?

| We use professional petsitters who come into our home and take care of the dogs and then they sleep over. It has come with some issues but overall it is the best option for the dogs that I have found - they stay at home so there is no disturbance to their routines.

| I had a friend all lined up, and I was perfectly comfortable with that, but she backed out after she decided to plan her own trip for the same week. I asked my family, but none of them wanted to do it...not even the person who gave her to me (she is family as well). The vet's was the only reasonably priced option that we could do sort of last minute. I would be majorly nervous/paranoid about having a petsitter stay in my home (I come from a family of law enforcement), and I would have to do some serious research into finding a good sitter to bring her to. I don't live in NYC, but about 30 minutes north of the city...if anyone knows a good service, please let me know!

| Well, it's not ideal but your little one will be fine. I'm sure you can call in everyday and check on her. The last time I left my dog at a professional boarding kennel - I wasn't that thrilled with it - though it was supposed to be better than the Vets. This one had really gone downhill. They wanted to put Lucy and Ringo (my Westie) in the same cage and I wouldn't let them - not at night when on one is there. Anyway, if you can't find anywhere else - just keep calling them daily and make sure she is eating and drinking like she should. |
