| male or female? What do you have? What are the pros and cons of males vs. females? Or do all Yorkies' temperaments vary by individual and not gender? I've always wanted a male, but I just realized I don't have any REAL reason for wanting a male over a female (the cheaper cost is a bonus though). Please comment! |

| Well alot of people on here say their male is sweeter and there female is more aloof but in my case my female is the sweeter one. Males can mark where females usually dont. The price is usually cheaper for males. unspayed females can go into heat. There are more cute clothes for females. Those are the main differences that I can think of. Me personally I really like having a female. She is my cuddle baby. I love to dress her up in cute clothes. But it is really up to you and what you want. Good luck with your decision you really cant go wrong either way.

| I have always had a female dog. Mostly it is because I don't like seeing the "Red Rocket" nor the lifting the leg to relieve themselves. That is a personal thing, though. As for personality, I think it is up to the individual dog---male or female---. I do kind of believe that they are all loving and loyal dogs. Pat |

| I was just like you and wanted a little boy for no real reason. Some day I might get a girl, but here's a few reasons why I'm happy we got a boy. 1. My husband loves him and wrestles with him and teaches him tricks. He would be sweet to a girl, it wouldn't be the same He and Loki are best buds. I'm serious. 2. I never understood the whole putting a dress on a dog thing, so I suppose I would dress a girl just like a boy. Loki has 3 hoodies that keep him warm and look very cute (and really cool!) He looks like a little kid in them and I never have to feel silly about "dressing" him. It's just to keep him warm. We have simple harnesses and collars and he is just very practical, no fuss. 3. I keep him in a puppy cut because I love to see his cute face and it's easier to take care of when he needs a bath every 5-6 days! He sits nicely for the blow dryer but I'd never be able (nor want) to fuss with a top knot. He is just adorable. 4. He has energy!! He plays HARD. He works hard too though - we do a lot of obedience training and he is always eager to learn. We love teaching him new stuff. He plays with big dogs no problem. He is just amazing. When he's tired though, he is a little snuggle bug. He's sleeping next to me right now. Oh, and every dog is different but we had Loki neutered at 6 months and he has never lifted his leg or marked or any of that. He sure does like to pee though! We go outside twice as much as any other dog I know. Housetraining was tough at first (it always is) until he earned how to let us know he had to go out, now he barks or scratches at the door. He is a good boy. The neuter surgery was easy and recovery was fast. We've been lucky enough to find a great vet and a great trainer to help answer all of our puppy questions Loki has turned out fabulous! We love him so much!!!!!!!

| I have a female and the reason why I like females better is bc of the whole lifting the leg thing. My mother has a male chihuahua and he marks everywhere. But, males do seem to be sweeter and females sometimes do not like to be bothered. I guess you can say females have more "diva attitudes" (not much different than us human females!! haha). Males are more carefree. Hope this helps |

| I have been owned by a bezillion of both sexes. As for my pick of purely pets, I do admit I love my boys. Having said that, my pet now is a sweet little girl and I love her to pieces. I have had intact males that were house-trained even with my intact females. I have had females who hiked their leg and whizzed all over the place. Males can wear a belly band and even when not completely trained, you can take them places. I have never found a pair of girlie panties that wold stay on the girls and catch their pee. So, either of them can be a lot of work. Either of them can be the most wonderful companion you will ever have.. Good Luck in selecting your baby.. |

| I personally like females better. I have two females and they are incredibally sweet and cuddley. Great personalities. I have heard that boys mark a lot and are harder to train??????? but i don't know if it's true or not. I love all Yorkies tho, no matter the sex, size or colour. |

| I have girls because I was concerned about marking and they are very sweet, even to each other. They are well behaved, lovable, very smart and you can put cut bows in their hair. What more could you want? |

| I have one of each (both by accident)! They are totally different and their background has a lot to do with it too! Hallie was abused and when I got her she was already 2 and Simon I've had since he was a baby (the woman who got him left him at the vet b/c he wasn't "perfect" for her) so they both had very different backgrounds! Hallie is my cuddlebug, she follows me everywhere and gets very stressed when she can't see me. She also has some jealousy issues and is not perfectly potty trained (it's been a year) Simon is my spastic, out of control little boy! He LOVES to play hard, run fast, roll in puddles, eat bugs, he is a true boy! He has never marked and is perfectly potty trained. He only likes to cuddle at night time and is more independent than Hallie! I can't say I have a preference b/c they are both such unique little creatures and they both have such different personalities! |

| Schatzie is my girl. She acts girly girl w/ her bows and dresses, yet at times very tomboyish as she loves to get dirty, roll in shredded leaves, chase bugs, and lick icky things. Ewwww! I don't really have pro's or con's to either sex, male or female. All Yorkie's are perfect to me in each of their own special ways.

| well, they're both really sweet, male or female. i don't really have a pref. one of my 2 boys is really sweet on me though...just wants my attention at all times. the girls will tend to go off and not pay me any mind, but when i'm giving them attention they are all over me, kissing. so i guess it's just a personal pref. i know alot of people tend to frown on males when looking for a puppy due to the humping and leg lifting, but when you have your little guy neutered at an early age, you USUALLY will not have to deal with all that anyway. i do stress the word usually, i know there's always an exception. i have a girl who "humps" everyone...ha ha |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I have 2 males and 1 female. The girls...unless you get them spayed...you have to worry about the messy mess every 6 months (once it starts). Males, you have to worry about them marking either inside or outside...mine don't mark inside (I've been very fortunate). I had to shave Chester because he would squirt pee on his skirt and I was tired of him being so nasty. If I had to choose between the two sexes, I'd choose a female. Personality wise, they are both very sweet. Gracie and Chester are a lot calmer than Rebel...but then again, he's still a puppy. But when Gracie and Chester was his age, they were still calmer so I hope that Rebel is calm too when he's an adult.
