Default Looking for "teacup" owners for questions/concerns

Hello and hi..... Im Jena and expecting a new addition to my already dysfunctional family of a siamese that thinks he is part dog/human/my new boyfriend. (thinks I babied him a lil too much)

anyways I dont want to count my chickens yet till I have yorkie in hand and home. People change their minds like underwear is changed nowadays.

I have aquired into a lil 3 pounder off craigslist. Lady says shes not home enough to bother with him. Hes a little over a year and not fixed.

I am not a keen fan of not fixing ur anumals that is why i believe there are so many unwanted animals. I do want to get him fixed but I have read that it is also dangerous. More so cuz how tiny they are. Any suggestions there. Being so little and tiny im not overly concerned if he does go in the house (pee pads possibly litter training) I have done pee pads b4 helping out friends pee pad train their puppies here and there but never tried to litter train a dog like a cat is.

any info would be greatly appericated in my quest for this little guy

and once I do have him home I will invite u all in to enjoy that puppy luv.

also he will be crated and in a fenced in play area when im at work

Welcome to YT!

To neuter a male is MUCH less invasive than spaying a female, so I would not worry. Since he is already over a year, he may be marking, and he may continue to do so after neuter, so you may want to look into belly bands. I don't have boys, so I guess that's about all the advice I can give.

If he is presently using pads, then it would not be wise to change that at his age, especially, while he is changing homes. Do you know how she has trained him? I would definitely have him neutered. Many are that size. There is always a risk with anesthesia, whether they are small or not.

Welcome to YT.

There is always a risk with anesthesia, but he should do fine.
There is a thread about it in the YT Library if you'd like more information about the type of anesthesia that should be used, etc.

i def have no issues on wether to fix him or not it will happen. as for the belly band its a great thing but not something I would keep on him all the time. I just dont want a leg lifter and if he's already acustomed to it I might be SOL with that then and have to deal with it. hoping he doesnt do it. I think she said she has him paper trained but pee pads hold smell way better

hello and welcome!!! I agree - he's definitely not too small! If you are worried about size, take him to a vet that specializes in small dogs, or you could take them to an animal shelter to be fixed. That's what I'm doing with my boys, and it costs about half as much as our vet. humane societies fix puppies all the time, so they will for sure know what they're doing. My Tank is 4 lbs, and my Joey is 5.5 or so, and they're full grown. I did wait a while to get them fixed (their appointment is in 3 weeks, and they're 16 months and 22 months...), but I'm certain they would have been fine younger also. I would definitely be very careful with your little guy! I've heard of a lot of people having nutra cal on hand at all times in case they go hypoglycemic, which can happen with tinies since they have tiny tummies and can't eat enough to hold their blood sugar high for long periods of time. They're also very fragile, so you'll have to be gentle and not allow them to jump off of things and such. Good luck - I hope you get your little guy!!!

oh, and my boys do mark, but only outside...they do know that inside it's a no no. My parents' garage, on the other hand....haha. my parents babysat them for us once, and the boys were confused as to what the garage counted as, inside or out

I work 8-9 hours a day and without driving I wont be able to come home for lunch anymore due to taking the bus. I will have to leave animal planet on for him until him and the cat get along to entertain each other. I will be leaving food and water out all day though due to this fact and I think that might help with the whole not eating thing. But I will have nutra cal on hand just in case. Its been a long time since I had a puppy and I have to learn it all over again too.

I would definitely neuter him and keep using pee pads and try to transition him outside. Have you actually met the dog yet? Could be she is getting rid of him because he marks all over the house, which would be another great reason to get him neutered. Generally people don't get rid of a dog unless it becomes a problem after they raise it wrong. Just my experience.

she says she works long hours just doesnt have time for him. I work like i said 8-9 hours a day I dont think thats any reason to turn an animal away. From what I understand he may never stop lifting his leg. Im just gonna have to try it and see I guess.

He will be so happy to have a person that cares about him! Get him neutered and stay on top of training him when you are at home. I have read that belly bands do help.
