| I am so ticked off, why don't people listen or care!!? My bf is out of town and he is visiting with his family, Last week on the phone he told me his cousin was getting a yorkie from the same place his sister got her yorkie from 7 years ago. I told my bf to tell her not to, that it was a pet store and the puppies are from a puppymill etc. Well today he called and mentioned that she picked up the puppy, I was pissed Do people not care??? I asked how old the yorkie was, he said about 7 or 8 weeks!! He said she was told it was a "teacup" but even at that age he looks about the size of my Bailey ( who is 3lbs 8ozs) Why don't people listen?, why don't they care!?, I wish people were forced to watch where these puppies are originally coming from, it makes me so mad and sad at the same time!

| Some people want the instant gratification of picking out a pet and taking it with them at that time - they don't want to bother with researching and finding someone reputable and learning more about the breed. We can keep trying to educate them, but some people will never want to learn. That's just a fact of life. Unfortunately.

| I totally agree with you. Prior to getting my baby, I researched tons of info and learned of a puppy mill not far from me...so I stayed away from that breeder! I got my baby from a retired elderly woman who has her babies in her home. She is not a big time breeder. In fact, she told me last week that she is going to scale back on the small amount that she does based on her age and health. When I went to look at her puppies, she offered for me to go into the area of her house where her babies all live and it was so VERY clean. I would love to take in a couple of little one's and breed from time to time but I am just not sure about it yet! I can call this lady that I bought Raley from any time I want. I've called her 3 times in just over 2 months just to let her know how well he is doing, etc....I am even going to take him to visit her soon. I wish, as you do, that everyone could see the puppymill pictures and videos!!! |

| It is definitely the generation of "all about me" and "right now"; whether it be the moral thing to do or not. People do not care until it effects them, usually through the health issues that face their pup! Then suddenly their eyes are open, only it is too late by then. Sad, but too true! All I can say, is that you did the honorable thing and tried your best to educate her! |

and girl - if people choose not to listen you can't change it - what sucks is more people than not don't really care what they're supporting when they buy at pet stores. | |

| I have had many dogs over the years; as a child and now. I can honestly say I never knew anything about puppy mills. The first time I became aware, was when I purchased "Halo", our cairn/scottie mix. I worked with a girl whose neighbor bred dogs. She said so many great things about her, so I thought why not see what kind of puppies she has available. I didn't have a special breed in mind, so off I went. Once I arrived, I thought I would vomit. She had a little pen set up outside of her house with a mix of puppies. I noticed that one of them looked a little sluggish and she said that he had just woken up. All around me were cages on top of cages, outside mind you, that housed many breeds of dogs. I could not believe my eyes! I was so sad! I almost walked away, but I felt if I left that little puppy there it would die and nobody would care. I bought the puppy and low and behold that evening I had to rush him to the vet. He had parvo! After many tears and many dollars later, he has lived to be a healthy 5 year old dog. I will never, ever, buy another dog from anything that resembles a puppy mill, including pet stores. I called the women that sold me the puppy and told her what had happened. I yelled and screamed at her for the lies and her actions. After many days and many threatening phone calls, she reimbursed me for the puppy, but would not touch the vet bill. I have learned my lesson the hard way! Even though it is hard to watch some of these commercials they are now showing about puppy mills, it is education. Loving pet owners have to spread the word about backyard breeders/sellers/puppy mills/pet stores. It is dangerous and appalling! I appreciate the fact that you tried to do the right thing. Now, let's hope the puppy is healthy... |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thats just so sad, she should've listened to someone who know what they were talking about but like they said above people just want instant gratification these days. It takes way too much effort to put research and time into finding a puppy for some people. I didn't want to have to wait to find a dog either when i was looking for my baby but I made sure i questioned everything and everyone when it came to getting my baby because I wanted her to be healthy and I wanted to know where she came from. It took me months of searching to find my baby, i ran across so many scams and puppy mills it was disgusting! I didn't give them a second look and I went on with my search, I'm not about to support something like that! I really hope the puppy will be ok though, i feel really bad for them, it isn't their fault people are ignorant.
