| Just a little thought I am new on here... but I have been involved with dogs my entire life. First it was with bulldogs (as my dad was a breeder until I was about a year old.) My mom also showed a few of their bulldogs as well. Then they had chihuahuas as companions. They bred one female and then left it at that. Then, I got into the bulldog world - I never bred, but I did want to show. Our dog that was show quality was sadly electrocuted and I had my last baby. We decided that bulldogs were not a good fit for us because we had 4 small children and the baby and I were very allergic to bulldogs (they secrete more oil from their skin). After she passed we waited a long time to get another puppy. We decided to go with a hypoallergenic puppy and did alot of research - which landed us with yorkies. We did so much research, talked to so many breeders (some very scary ones who had kennels in their un-airconditioned or un-heated garages) and finally found Deb. Now, in my span of being involved with dogs - I see too many people take AKC registry (or any registry for that matter) as a paper that says your dog is perfect in looks and health. I respect AKC very much, but I do not respect all of the breeders who use them. AKC will register ANY purebred dog - however, it is the breeders responsibility to decide if that dog has genes that are good for passing on. I know that this group is very educated, but I tell this to everyone who will listen. If you do not know what genes are good genes to pass on, you have no business breeding. I saw so many yorkie breeders who refused to let us see mom and dad. Our breeder Deb MADE us go to her home to meet with her (kind of like an interview) and asked us to look at mom and dad, and not only their coats, but she told us to check their teeth, look at their skin, observe their personalities. In my experience , I have seen so many people who think they are doing something good, but aren't. Then people go out to buy a puppy and end up with so many health problems. Also, even if a breeder has a million referrals from the best places - do your own observing. Get to know the breeder and their animals. It never hurts - and also, to those of you who breed quality dogs for the rest of us to enjoy... THANK YOU! Thank you for doing it the right way and not the cheap or easy way! |

| Thanks... I really don't mean to sound full of myself - but throughout my years I have seen so many people breed dogs solely because they can make a profit. When people market their dogs as registered many people assume that they are perfect dogs and or perfect breeders. When searching for Chloe - I was sickened by what I heard. One woman who is in the Portland, Texas area told me that her kennels were in her garage without ac or heat. She told me that her females stayed in the garage while pregnant. She also told me that Yorkies did not like alot of interaction. After my pause I think she noticed I was not pleased and told me that since her pups were AKC I could breed her when she was 6 months and get what I paid for her tripled... I was horrified! I even had one bulldog breeder try to sell me a 6 month old pup that was about to go into heat and used the "we will artificially inseminate her here with your choice of stud" if I chose her... she was 6 months old! I really don't know if these people were ignorant in the dog breeding world or were just cruel. Who am I to judge, right? But I can pass my information on... and maybe it will change one persons mind on breeders who do it for the sake of profit. Again, a big thank you to the breeders who do it the RIGHT way! |
