Yorkie Yakker | Sooo MANY ????'s. (new momma) So I am new to "YT". I have a 5 1/2 male. Who is absolutely wonderful....HOWEVER.. I am a lost mommy!!! Whoever has time please FOOD- So when I first got SHOBI, he was on kibbles and bits(eww), then the vet told me science diet. Once I read on YT I found out it wasnt the best food ever. After reading and being so confused I finally went with New Balance. Is that a good food? BUT Shobi is not crazy about it unless it has a little bit of wet food. Am I doing the right thing with this food issue? I also use NB rolls for treats Right now my concern is teething. I have found 2 of his teeth which I think is normal. But today he was veryyy lazy and sleepy. The last couple of days its been a struggle for him to eat. Could his teeth be bothering him that bad.? Also ha stinky breath the last couple of days. Not sure if its because of his teeth or his new food. I finally broke down and just put wet food. He ate it but def. do not want him to get used to that. please help!!! just need some advice. thank you |

| He's 5 1/2 MONTHS, right? Not years? NB is a pretty good food. I think there are so many differing opinions on food so you will get alot of answers. It's a bit lower in protein & meat for my liking but I think it's one of the better foods you can find at Petsmart. I don't see anything wrong with mixing wet food. I do this for Jackson's dinner most nights (mix in the kibble with the wet). The only foods Jackson will eat so far by itself (just kibble) is Nature's Variety Instinct and Fromm Surf and Turf. He will go and chow down! Teething... when they go thru that, yes, they can have stinky breath. They often retain baby teeth and those are usually removed during their neuter operation. I would play a game of tug to try and pull the remaining ones out, or get him good chews like bully sticks. Jackson had 4 baby teeth pulled during his neuter. You don't wanna put them under more than necessary.

And, yes. He is just like a teething baby. His gums hurt. He may even have a bit of fever. It hurts more for some than others during teething. Try putting some water on his dry food. The kibble probably hurts his gums. He probably doesn't feel that great, either. You can even freeze a wet washcloth and hold it on his gums for awhile to give him some relief or give him an ice cube/sliver of crushed ice if he likes it.

| I had the same problem with my Twinkie. I have her on a brand called Blue. I also mix some homemade chicken and rice with her hard food. She loves it! And yes, the stinky breath is from teething. I found out from the vet last week that she will have 2 teeth pulled when she is spayed. Good luck with the food. They can be so picky! |

| I am right there with you...panic mode! I am slowly getting better, but it can be difficult reading so many sad posts. I am always checking her to make sure she is okay. The older she gets, the easier it is for me. I am grateful for YT, because I have learned so much! First time Yorkie owner and I am loving every bit of it. She is 7 months old now. To answer your question about snoring, Twinkie makes little noises while she's sleeping. It can be funny at times! Stay strong and enjoy the journey with your baby! |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | you can also get some frozen green beans and steam them in the microwave or even feed it frozen....what i do is get like 6-9 pieces of frozen green beans....run them under hot water....then cut them into kibble size pieces...mix it in with their kibbles and a teaspoon of low fat or no fat cottage cheese and they gobble it all up! green beans can be used as a filler or treats...it is no fat to them...and most love them...

| I know there's a thread on here somewhere with a "food grader" thing...it will show you what to subtract or add points for...very good tool. I feed an all natural dry food, but lately I've begun mixing in about 1 tbs of wet food to get my underweight Tank to eat more. I apologize, I'm not sure where the thread is. As for the teething, they will retain teeth...Joey had his little upper canines pulled, and Tank will be getting his pulled with his neuter next month. (my boys are adult dogs, but I haven't gotten them fixed yet) When puppies are teething, it's just the same as a human child...they will sometimes get tired, grumpy, sore, etc...just try to comfort and cuddle them as much as they want

It's funny you mentioned if they dream because I recently witness Magnus "dreaming" about something. I was taking a nap on the couch, he was sleeping on the floor right below and I started hearing some muffled barking and growling. I had him on Iams (yes.. I know I know...) and currently in the process of switching him over to "Wellness Super5Mix Just for Puppy Food". He seems to like it. Actually, I went to their website and requested a sample since I didn't want to buy a whole bag and then find out he doesn't like it. Maybe that's something you could try to see which kibble yours would like? And I totally understand about being in a constant panic mode. I lost over 10 lbs since I had my puppy b/c I was constantly worried over every little thing. One of my friends joked and said I was obsessed with him. LOL (It's probably true.. -_-; ) Good luck! And you'll probably keep being in that panic mode for few more months!!!!! ROFL | |
