| My lesson... I just feel like I have to let it out. So, I got my baby Carmel in September 2009. I have been talking to his breeder often lately because she hasn't sent me his AKC paper like she said in the beginning. She has finally been working on it, but I had to keep her on it. Over the time, I found out many unpleasant things. Well, when I got him I knew she was new at breeding and very inexperienced about the dogs and stuff. However, I went ahead and got him because I wanted a yorkie so bad. Now, I found out that she is basically breeding DOGS for PROFIT. She is recently switching to bull dogs because (she said) yorkies are too much work and bull dogs are just the same profit but less work. My bf and I are both uneasy about it because we don't think it's right to use a living thing to make money. We were going to breed our little girl because we wanted to keep her puppies, NOT TO SELL + MAKE PROFIT. However, now, we are deciding not to because I learned a lot on here and I want what's best for HER (she's tiny). It saddens me to hear stuff like this. Now I am worry about my Carmel having issues in the future. I learned my lesson...the HARD way.

| Awwww, I am sooo proud of you!!! I used to think it would be awesome to have puppies.....to watch them play and grow. When I joined YorkieTalk I learned how dangerous it is for the mommy and and how difficult it is to keep the little tiny puppies alive and healthy. I have read where ethical breeders say that if you do it right there is not profit.....they do it for the betterment of the breed. Blessings to the ones who try to give us healthy Yorkies. Enjoy your little furbaby. ~Joanne~

It is so Sad people will do anything for Money.. |

| Hindsight is always 20/20. We got Hot Rod from a pet store as we didn't know better. Maggie is from a breeder. I have definitely learned a whole lot from being on yt. didn't know about puppy mills, byb or any of that. Now I know a whole lot more than I ever did.

have learn so much from YT. Thank You everyone one. i came across the biewer back in June of 2009 i have had just about a year doing my research on finding a biewer terrier. well after just about a year of doing my research on the biewer i have found Gayle. i Thank God for sending me to her.. this is the type of pet lover i am looking for. if i have a question she is more than happy to answer any question that i have. Only God know that i cannot wait until this Fall so i could bring one..my point is you have good breeders and then you have some breeders who are just in it for the money.. | |

| I too have learned alot since getting Gizmo and even Tenci. I can't say I am sorry for the decisions I made that brought them into my life, even though Gizmo was sick and I hurt so much for him, I couldn't imagine not having him in my life. My little Tenci has been healthy so far (THANK GOD) coming from a pet store. I am thankful for all I have learned since.

| I'm sorry that you had such a poor experience with your breeder. It's a shame when greedy people take advantage of not only these poor pups, but of unknowing customers as well. The important thing is your baby is healthy and adorable, and regardless of who you bought her from, she'll always bring a smile to your face!

I know that if I ever get another Yorkie it will definatley be an adult not a puppy. and like dh and I were talking about tonight I will never breed them. I had one litter of boxer pups (not by choice, long story) My girl had 9 pups, luckily i had her xrayed two weeks before so I knew how many, and I know the costs just in the mom being preg and then raising the pups, i did not make any profit! You poor thing..I am so glad though that you have yourself a little "heart" puppy there though!

| Yeah, from what I hear from her, if she doesn't make a profit, she will move onto lab...she said they give birth to a lot of puppies so then more profit. I need the AKC paper for my puppy so I can't say anything to upset her so I have to bite my tongue. Here's a picture of Carmel, the puppy I bought from her. He is 8 months now and healthy. Does anyone know when problems begin to rise??!? Thanks!

| I think it is funny that she thinks bulldogs will make her more of a profit. I was the proud owner of a champion sired female English Bulldog named Lola. She was a beauty and could have probably been shown if we lived closer to a bulldog club. Her dad and granddad both had championship titles. Fast forward a few years and another breeder wanted me to breed Lola with one of her males who had just achieved a championship title. I was honored, but knew that too much was at stake. Bulldogs require artificial insemination because their bodies don't allow free breeding in MOST cases, bulldogs require c-sections because their babies heads are too big, bulldogs have a high puppy mortality rate due to water babies because of their flat noses... So, take the a/i fee which can vary from vet to vet but I am going to say $300 to include testing of the semen and actual insemination, $1500 for a c-section, $300 for puppy care (averaging about 3 puppies a litter) and you are at $2100 up front... now, say one of those puppies dies because the mother sits on it and you are now down to 2. You can advertise the puppies for $1800 and if all goes well and you sell the puppies you make $3600 - 2100 which puts you at $1500 - now this is with the exception that you have the stud and didn't have to pay a stud fee, and no hidden costs popped out of the woodwork, and i forgot about the registration papers and food to feed the puppies and their mom who will be eating more while nursing. Oh and most bulldogs require bottle feeding round the clock because their mothers can easily squish them to death. BULLDOGS ARE NOT AN EASY BREED TO BREED. PERIOD. However, no one should go into breeding for profit, they should see that they have a good sire or dam that could pass good genes on to create other healthy yorkies. |
