Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have a weird question I have taken in a 13 year old male and he has started to use the potty pads. I have noticed his urine smells so much stronger than my 2 females that use the pads. I am going to have his blood work done soon to see where we are at with his kidney and liver functions and general health but wondered if there is a difference because he is a male. He is neutered, not sure when as he was found on the streets 2 years ago. Thanks

| Idk but i have a question-- how did you make him consistantly use the pee pads? Castor Pollux uses them except if I go in the bathroom to use my toilet, he pees on the rug. Sorry I'm not any help |

| Patti, was he eating a different food than what you have the girls on? I've noticed the urine smell changes based on what food in the rotation we're on, but not drastically. Otherwise, I have no idea - sorry.

| Couple of possibilities: always profusely praise Castor Pollux when he does things right, and don't ever stop with the praise. Clean your rugs to make sure the scent doesn't attract him to return to the spot. Most people advocate using an enzyme cleaner to completely rid the spot of a scent that may be detectable only to a dog's sensitive nose. Good luck. |

| Are all of your girls spayed, Patti? I noticed a big difference in Murfee's urine when the girls came in heat, it was definitely skunk like, but on a normal day he had no more smell than they did. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks. No he was eating the same food as mine and my girls are all spayed. His age was determined by a vet and the rescue by his teeth and his eyes are clouded. It is just a guess though. He jumps really well but sleeps all the time. He goes outside but I noticed he will use the pads when he wants to. My Pixie won't use the pads but goes outsidemand when she feels like it uses the bathroom rug. So I have no advice on how to train!!lol

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Unneutered males have a much stronger odor, but neutered males should be the same as a female. I would definitely ask the vet about this.
