| Help, My yorkie got shaved!! Hello, I have a one year old female yorkie Daizy, she is lovely and soo sweet, had a beautiful coat long and she looked like a little bear but had some knots...I took her to a new groomer, nice place, she seemed sure of what she would do but when I got there to pick her up, she had shaved the coat very close to the skin, now we have Daizy that looks more like a fox or one of those egyptian cats.. still cute and we love her so but oh my God!!!! I couldn't believe they did that. I am so upset. I really was working on having her with a long coat. does anyone know how long it will take for it to grow? do you think Daizy is traumatized by the drastic change? she is now cold and fragile... poor thing! and I feel horrible for my poor baby, |

| I'm so sorry you had a bad outcome from this groomer. It happens often and is very upsetting. She might feel bad from your reaction to how she looks now, so try to act as you did before she was shaved. In the meantime, a sweater or hoodie would help her to stay warm, and blankets to cuddle in. It depends on how fast her coat grows as to how long it will take, but hopefully hers grows quickly. Welcome to YT!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome! Sorry that happened to your baby. I think it grows back pretty quick. I have been thinking of taking 2 of mine to a groomer for a professional groom but I am so afraid of them getting shaved. Did you let the groomer know you were unhappy?

| Welcome to YT. Did you ask the groomer to show you some cuts she has done on her other yorkies? Some groomers will do just short cuts. There are some that will cut just Yorkies. Sorry that this happened.. |

| After Bandit got neutered we couldn't give him a bath and I was WAY too over protective of even brushing him so he wound up with mats (only on his head for some reason) and we took him for his grooming and they asked us to sign a shave waiver because of the mats but said it would only be in that one spot...when we go to pick him up he looked like a naked little Chihuahua! THey said it wouldn't have looked good to just have that one mat shaved out. It grew back quickly but I still felt horrible. Also, it was at PetSmart (we hadn't found our groomer yet). Don't worry...it'll grow back I even got to get some clothes for him bc even my DH felt bad about how cold and naked Bandit looked!!!! |

| This happened to Bailey at her first groom - but at least they told me before they shaved her. Yes, it was very upsetting. You'll notice growth every week. It grows back fairly fast.

| I feel your pain! I posted a story almost exactly the same right before Christmas. We are still growing a new coat. Her coat is now maybe 2.5inches long, She was shaved head to toe to maybe an 1/8th of an inch.. so in our case the answer is months!

| Oh my god that same thing happened to my Timba.. he went in with long hair and came out with no hair.. I was devestated and this was last june of 2009... I guess the groomer did'nt understand what I said... He has finally grown hair back it took awhile and now his hair is just a little past his tummy .. I cant wait for it to get longer.. he was very sad when that happened.. he would run and hide all day long I wanted to choke that groomer...

| This seems to happen so often do you think the groomers dont know how to cut a yorkie so they shave them and say they had to I make my groomer say that she will not use the shaver for anything other then his feet and i make her say it on the video on my phone she thinks im crazy but i always get the cut i ask for

| Thank you sooo much... Hello everybody, Thank you sooo much for your replies, I feel soo much better. I took Daizy to the vet today and asked them about it they told me: it was ok , that she still looked cute, that it would help the hair stay resistant and that the hair would grow back fairly quickly. I was also told to ask for exposition cuts when taking her to a groomer. I was soo in shock after I picked her up that even though I was really dissappointed, I did not react quick enough to really tell that groomer off. I was told that even though the hair is very short to style it in the middle like the yorkie coat to keep the style. Needless to say, next time I will make sure there is no shaver around my poor baby. And I will follow your advise to re-assure her she is ok. and keep her nice and warm. |

| What a thing to happen you must be so upset. I'm only glad that my groomer comes to my house. Maybe there should be more mobile groomers in your area. Lots of hugs Shirl x x |

| I know I posted before about a product I found that stops mats - but here it is again!!!! THE STUFF is the name of it. I have put it in a small spray bottle, and you just use a little spray, comb out that area, and so on. It says it stops mats, and stops static that attracts dust etc that causes mats. It also makes his coat shiny and silky soft. I am growing Mr. Darcy's coat and have had no trouble keeping it nice. I even bought a small Yorkie dog clipper and I do his feet, face and ears!!!!
