| Need ideas I have already mentioned that after the loss of our 13 year old Yorkie we now have a new Yorkie named Joey. Joey is 9 months old and is trained to use pee pads. I think this is great but I want him to learn to "go" outside also. He has never done his business outside and he is only just now getting use to a leash. We do not have a fenced-in yard so he will always have to be on a leash. He was born in a wonderful home that raises Yorkie for show but he was sold to us because of a problm with his testicles not coming down. I would love to have some help with how to get him to us the potty outside. Thanks for any help with this. Have a great day. Meme7 and Joey |

Start taking him for walks first thing in the morning and shortly after meals and water. He will eventually naturally do his business outside and when he does, praise him profusely. Use key words when you go out for the walks, like "Need to go potty?" I did the same thing with Maximo and it took a little time for him to discover that he could potty outside too (we are still pad users, but it was important for him to know that he could go outside). Once you have established the willingness to potty outside, be consistent in the timing of outdoor trips and the number of trips per day. Your little guy will fall into the rhythm and routine. Be patient. The process might take some time. Good luck! | |
