| Please help: Yorkie weird behaviour Hi everyone, My boy is 5 months and i'm hoping that you guys can help me as i've noticed that his behaviour has been changing the past few weeks so i'm not sure if it's normal. 1. I've had him for about 3 months now and recently about a month ago, he has started to pee and poop at inappropriate places like on his water. 2. He seem to forget that he has eaten and if i feed him again he eats like he has not eaten. I have increased his food coz i thought i wasn't giving him enough and he has gained 2kg in one month but he still doesn't stop eating. 3. Other dogs don't like him because he gets too aggressive and attack them for no reason at all. 4. He has also started to hit his head on hard surfaces over and over, he stops when i tell him to. I think it does hurt coz he shakes his head and does it again if he thinks i'm not watching. 5. He is extremly hyper-active and clumsy and get distracted easily. He seem to be confused at times, I'll ask him to go to his bed and he will run to other places first and eventually go to his bed. He also hides in a dark corner under the chair for no reason. 6. He doesn't respond to me when i talk to him in a firm voice, i have to shout or make a loud noise for him to respond. 7. He also doesn't sleep much and spend most of his time playing, if i take away his toys for him to sleep, he start destroying things. I've been around other dogs before but none of them act like my sammy. He jumps off everytime i try to hold him, he doesn't sit or cuddle with me and doesn't seem to be bonding with me. I walk him daily and sometimes he just sit there in the middle of our walk and doesn't want to walk anymore. He is ALWAYS distracted. I want to call my vet to bring him in ASAP but i don't want to seem like i'm overreacting. My friend told me that it was normal but i doubt it. Pls tell me that this is a normal puppy behaviour coz even though we haven't bonded much i want to do whatever i can to help him coz he's just so adorable. | Not normal, IMO. I'd be heading for the vet ASAP. Hope someone else responds. You might want to post this in the sick section. Hope things turn out. ~Joanne~

| Your Sammy sounds like a normal puppy to me. The only thing I feel is different is the banging of his head on the floor. I would have him checked out by a vet. As far as hiding in a dark corner, they like to do this. Buddy goes under the chair at night, always did. It's his sactuary. Your pup is only 5mo. old. He will be hyper, he's a puppy. Don't take away his toys, he needs them to relieve his energy. Do you walk him at night? Do you play with him during the evening to help him burn up some of that energy? He's sounds much like Buddy as a pup. Bud use to jump on my head during the night and wake me up. I kept a magazine under the cover's and swated him with it from time to time. He learned after a while that you don't wake me up to play during the night. They don't want to sit still, be patient this comes with getting older, maybe around 1yr old. Don't expect too much from him now. You should be working on sit, stay and come along with other tricks. They love to work and learn. I think your expecting way too much from him at this time. You have to exercise him and make him tired for the night. Some pups a laid back and don't like to play others can't get enough. If he checks out ok from the vet, enjoy him and teach him tricks, long walks and he will settle down in time. Enjoy and good luck. Last edited by ARCHIE; 02-22-2010 at 06:54 AM. |

| Sounds a bit like a hearing problem, like buzzing or ringing in the ears. Sadly there's no way they can tell us what's really going on so they're behavior is the only clue. Is the head banging look deliberate or just from confusion? That's disturbing. Almost like an attempt to make it stop ringing. Last edited by ReesiesDad; 02-22-2010 at 08:22 AM. |

| Hi...There are certain things here that I don't think are quite right...a lot is puppy behaviour but some isn't.. Can I ask..He hasn't had any fits at all has he? And has he had all his jabs? Pups do tend to hide a lot..mine does..but going into dark corners..doesn't sound too good to me.. Do get him Vet checked...See what they say first...keep a note of all what is happening to tell the Vet...everything will help..all little details etc.! Chrisann x

| Maybe Liver shunt... Liver S... something. It maybe that. And that is dangerous! the aggression may just be a puberty thing but the rest doesn't sound normal. When I got my yorkie the breeder talked to me about Liver S... and I wish I could remember the S word. from what I remember, they start to act completely irrationally-- they get dizzy and walk into things. Its NOT your fault, it a breeding thing-- it just pops up in a littler sometimes. Let your breeder know so that they never breed you pups parents again. Visit the vet, make life comfortable for your boo. I am NOT a vet, but I just remember the breeder having that conversation with me about Liver Shunt? Shant? ... ugh can't remember the s-word. She said it happens around 5-6 months and looks completely strange. check that out. Praying... that I'm completely wrong. |

| Head pressing, distorted and confused behavior AND aggression are HE symptoms of Liver Shunt or MVD How much does he weigh and what does he eat? I would have the Vet run a serium Bile Acid Test done (fasting blood draw that is sent to a lab that will show basic liver function) |

Make sure they don't do it in-house. It's usually a waste of money.

| Archie, thank you for your response. Maybe i expect too much from him as he is my first puppy and he behaves very different from what i've expected. I could be on fire crying my lungs out and he look the other way...Lol. I'll still get him checked out though. Thanks again. |

| Chrissan. No he hasn't had any fits. He just act confused and when i tell him to do something he'll sometimes go in circles before doing what i asked. He just had his last shot last month and the vete said he looked fine but just gained the weight quickly which he said was not alarming. |

| TLC he weight about 3.2kg and eats Royal Canine for Yorkies. I will ask the vet about the Bile acid test and i'm really hoping that this is just a weird puppy behaviour and it will pass. Can't imagine him having some liver problems... Thank you everyone for all your help... Much appreciated. |
