| Is this a "chocolate" yorkie? Is this a Chocolate Yorkie? If so, should it cost more than a normal Yorkie? Just curious. I've seen a couple ads with people charging outrageous prices just because of the color difference. Thanks in advance. Last edited by keova1; 02-21-2010 at 08:57 PM. |

| Yes, the one on the left is Chocolate/tan AKA Liver/tan. The colors that are not within the AKC show standards like the Parti Yorkies or Chocolate Yorkies are generally priced higher, especially if they are very nice quality Yorkies in every aspect except color. Other registries and large, out of AKC show standard size, are usually not as expensive. |

| Some of the Chocolates do change to a lighter color. In order to determine if it will, you might look to see if both parents have changed to lighter color. If both are still dark, the puppies MIGHT stay dark. |

| Yes, it's a chocolate yorkie, do they sell for more? Yes. Should they be? No. But, some breeders will use this as an advertising ploy "Rare Chocolate Colored Yorkie" to obtain more money from an undeducated public. No reputable breeder would sell these off colored yorkies, but place them in qualified homes as pets. It is a color fault or rather known in the Show World as a Disqualification.

| Confused Ok, I am little confused. From my research on the Yorkie breed and talking with a show breeder the chocolate is not to standard and is a genetic mutation. Hate that saying as they are still living, breathing beings. With that being said the chocolate should be at a lower price due to genetics and should automatically have no breeding contract. The breeder I spoke to advised me that if she had chocolate in a litter she would actually give the puppy away after she had it spayed/neutered. So, are they getting the higher price because people are trying say they are a rare breed or are a designer dog?
