| Barking!! My dog barking is driving my neighbors nuts. Everytime I leave the apartment. He will constantly bark and bark for hours waking people up. I don't know what to do anymore. I am hoping that someone can help me with this issue. I hate to give him up, but I desperately need help. I don't' want to come to a point to use the shocker on his neck. If someone can help me .... Thank you.

| I live in a condo so I empathize When you leave him is he crated, in a ex-pen, in an area cordoned off with baby gates, or does he have free run of the house? Depending on what you are currently doing, you may need to try another game plan - IE - if he is crated, try to leave him in a ex-pen or a room with gates closing off areas you do not want him to have access to Age is a factor too, and also his potty training status With Remy, he has to be left with free run of the house. He has had free run since he was little, and he is as quiet as a mouse. However if you try to confine him he will bark incessantly. When at my parents, they will leave him with free run as well, but will use baby gates to block off the living room. He does not seem to mind being kept OUT of a room, as long you are not trying to keep him IN a room. LOL, little stinker |

When he was a baby I confined him in a crate and he still barks. 3 years ago, i confined him in one area with baby gates. Problem is that is he only does this when I leave the house or when someone comes into the house. It is driving my neighbors nuts. I give him a treat whenever I leave and he will take it to his bed, that is when I leave. Once he is done with his treat he will bark. I can hear him outside my door. I don't know if its anxiety or not. I am running out of options.

| That is just totally inhumane and unacceptable.

| I bought that bark repeller on amazon for 14 bucks and works amazing. They want at least 25 in other mail order or brick/mortar venues. It is just a high pitched sound that only dogs hear and in no way really harms them. They just don't like it and stop barking. You are going to say, all well and good, but what about when you are gone.. I just saw a bark activated one in one of the little catalogs I get in the mail. I can't remember which one, but it could be googled. You just mount it low on the wall in which ever room. (I'd get multiple ones) and whenever your kid barks it would emit the noise. Should shush pretty quick. Ours worked so well that we really didn't have to use it but a couple of times. Now we just show them the little box and that is it. Even the big dog. We could take the batteries out...LOL We show them the box, say hush and they give us that look like, uh..okay. The maltipoo is the alert dog and I still give him praise and thanks when he barks at the door. I never want him to stop alerting to intruders. But he knows to quiet after I say thank you, good boy..... good luck

Mine started having bark issues when I went back to work full time - not while I'm gone but when I come home. I've not had much luck trying to get them to greet me like they used to. I think it's anxiety from being left all day while I'm gone so will be reading this. oh - they also now bark when I get out the harnesses - or when someone comes over. I can't really blame them - their lives changed when I went back to work but it's DEF something I need to get a handle on.

| Okay I have read alot of posts lately on the barking issue, b/c I too have a barker. Barks at the air, the wind, birds, anyone walking by,neighbors next door and always on alert. So I followed a suggestion. Go to Amazon.com and order the Pet Parade Bark Repeller. I went to all the local pet stores and no one had it, so.... I did and for $10 bucks and 1 try and now all is quiet. I am absolutly amazed. One push of the button and a mellow "Quiet" and it's a miracle. I also tried the coins in can, the squirt bottle, the plastic bottle krinkle noise and of course yelling. To no avail, this first year and now I am so grateful to YT members who recommend it. All I can say is just do it, it will change your life. |

Excellent post, I'm tempted to try this, we use pennies in a can, and it works all the time except when the cable guy comes over, Joey hates the cable guy. Does the bark repeller work for things like this? Is this what you mean? Amazon.com: Pet Parade Dog Repeller and Training...

| and thats why I love yorkies My baby is super protective of his house (my apt) he free runs during the day when I'm home, if I have to run to the store or something I put him in my bed room. He barks when i go outside just because he hears the door open, or hears someone in the backyard (me going to my car) yorkies are the cutest little terriers ever! I may have to look into the pitcy noise... that could work wonders at night. Im student teaching so while my friends go out Thursday night, I have to get up early, but when they're coming in Castor Pollux barks and wakes me. |

| Barker Mine are lil barkers....they bark when someone arrives or something is outside. Once you pet them they go about their business....however it would get annoying in the mornings when parents would drop the children off so we invested in the thing on amazon for $14 and it works wonders...I only used it liek 3 times and now I just reach for it and they are quiet. When we are going we leave the tv on for them...animal planet it is. Good Luck!
