| Spay Tomorrow- Help! Hi Everyone! I'm taking my baby to get Spayed tomorrow and I am sooo nervous. We had a check up last week to be sure she was in perfect health to go under anastesia, which she is. I'm still so nervous though, and I know my Dr. is good w/ small dogs. Is this a normal feeling? Also, what do I do when I bring her home? She is having some teeth pulled also. Can she still eat her hard dog food? Or should I buy her something soft for the next 2 days? I just want her to heal quickly and ease the pain as best I can for her. Did any of your yorkies really loves something after surgery? I know I'd like ice cream or pizza, haha - but what about the pups? All of her treats and food are hard to help her teeth stay strong, but what for the next few days? I just don't want her to be hungry. Thanks so much for all of your help - wish Laila luck!!!! |

| We just went through this on Friday. Yes, I was as nervous as you. Maybe more. I am the crazy old lady that cried when she dropped off her pup. Shelby was hungry that night right after surgery but they told me to limit her food to a half portion. If your dog only eats dry, you can moisten it with warm water. I wouldn't give her any new food or treat b/c it might upset her stomach after going through surgery. shelby is fine now. too fine. i want her to slow down until she completely heals! good luck. |

| Not to make you worry in addition to the usual spay worries but I had Bitsy spayed a couple weeks ago and she got burned by the heating pad they used to keep her warm during surgery. I don't know how common it is for a vet to use a heating pad and think that burns are very uncommon if they do use it, almost unheard of, but it did happen to Bitsy. Seems if something wierd is going to happen...it's going to happen to ME Probably just a fluke but you might want to ask your vet if they use one. Hope everything goes well!! Post and let us know how she is doing! Otherwise, Bitsy did great!!!

| Oh we will be thinking of her tomorrow. Yes it is so very hard. when our babies have surgery. I wouldn't give any different food or treats. you don't want to upset her tummy, May be a special little toy to play with after she feels better. Hang in there, I'm sure you are going to cry, we all do. be sure to bring some kleenex! Sending Hugs!!! ((((((( Laila )))))))

| My female was shaky and disoriented when we brought her home but she was back to normal the next day. She had teeth pulled also. I just feed her the regular hard food with some little caesars moist in the morning. Your vet may give you pain medication no matter what she will be on it when you bring her home. It will all be okay and you will be glad to have it done and behind you.

| For me, this was the worst, Chloe was tiny, but Lacey was extremely small, I was a wreck. Actually Chloe was a little shaky the day I brought her home, Lacey was the champ. They did have pain meds but Lacey did not need them. My vet kept mine until the next a.m. but it's because Chloe threw up right after surgery and Lacey was so small. Lacey had teeth removed as well. I think I gave mine boiled chicken and white rice for a couple of days and then back to dry food. So, it's perfectly normal to get nervous and usually everything goes very well. |

| I know I was a nervous wreck when Addi was spayed (she also had baby teeth removed). She had to spend the night and the next day she just stayed in one spot all day. But by the second day it was hard to keep her from jumping on the couch. We will say a little prayer for your little one.

| When Pixie was spayed she also had some teeth pulled. My vet recommended to just give her some ice cubes to lick because too much food or water would upset her stomach because of the anesthesia. I did give her a Gerber Chicken stick because she was breaking my heart everytime she went to her empty food bowl. I love those Gerber Chicken sticks for when they aren't feeling too good.. it's easily tolerated and they are soft to chew on.. and they make a great place to tuck a pill into so they'll take it without a 2nd though. The next day Pixie was back to normal and back to her dry kibble.
