Yorkies & Water! We took Yoda canoeing today at Lake Washington. He loves it! He'll just lay there on Mommy's lap, or front paws on the side of the canoe. Wind in his face with a nice breeze, on a warm sunny Seattle day! Nothing could make him happier, I think! We made sure to give him plenty of water, and when he wanted, he could sneak down and lay in some shade. Does your Yorkie swim or like to play in the water?

Higgins jumped right in the first lake he ever saw! While we were camping in Georgia. He was 3 1/2 months old. Swam beautifully! We live on a lake but he hasn't jumped in yet. Drinks out of it. And loves to go swamp romping in the muddy part. We have not encouraged him to swim in it due to the HUGE size of the nasty snapping turtles in our lake. Higgins would be a mere snack for one of those critters! However, Higgins LOVES to play with hose spray! And doesn't mind being out in the rain. Hates baths, though.......

Max is a garden hose junkie I thot only mister Max was a water hose nut......hates hates hates baths In Galveston...he does not go into the ocean because I keep him on his 18 foot leash ....ever since the tiny crab clamped onto the hair of his foot.....he walks carefully around the 10 gazillion tiny crab holes near the water......so I think going into the ocean would scare him to death. We have a swimming pool in our back yard...last summer he fell in while I was sitting on the deck...he went under and I was screaming hysterically...(typical for me when he is in danger) ...I was able to scoop him up.....don't remember him actually treading water......how can they with those tiny little paws????? I have to put him in the house when I hose off the porch and screens....he ends up looking like a drowned rat......often right after a grooming

Yup! Higgins LOVES to get wet and dig muddy holes right after a grooming! I think it's a boy thing......my sons were/are like that! Fortunately, Higgins had his harness on and was on his leash when he decided to jump in the water. Just dove right in! Since the edge of the lake at that point had a small wall, he would not have been able to get out on his own. We let him get a good swim going and then gently pulled him out. Haven't had him on a salt water beach yet....they don't allow dogs on most of our beaches here in Maine. Good policy, actually. He tends to be a little bit leary of new things, but not for longer than a minute.....so I predict he would be barking at the waves pretty quickly.

Aren't ALL doggies supposed to be able to swim? Well, we have a 2 foot deep kiddie pool that we sometimes set up. We put Mr. Yoda in there last year, and he was frantically paddling away, and he was able to keep afloat. He likes playing in water sometimes, but I'm don't think he likes trying to dog-paddle!

We were at a lake, and I was curious to know if Otis could swim, so I carried him about 4 feet from the water's edge, and yes, he swam to shore! He looked like he was struggling, so I didn't do it again. He didn't mind lying on the float with me, though. He would've never jumped off the float. He's such a chicken. But I DID buy him a doggy life jacket! It's sooo cute!

Yeah, there's something about getting water all over the place and Yorkies! Yoda always gets water everywhere every chance he gets! Course, he knows he can get away with it!
