Unhappy So my baby just went for her second ever grooming......

...and it was AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!

First, my husband picked her up and she came home "weird". I know you other Yorkie Mommies will know what I mean.

So for some reason, although my Poppy sleeps with me, eats with me, follows me to the bathroom and just basically is on top of me all day/all night, she is DISTANT............I just assume initially it is because she's spent time with other people.

WRONG.

So after a certain amount of time, where she is SUPER aggressive toward our cats (which she NEVER EVER is), I am basically crying that our baby came back "different".

Shall I not even mention how prior to this I have already decided NEVER to use that groomer again because she came back almost SHAVED completely. Now I like her cut "short" and with a classic "fluffy yorkie face".....yet she came back looking like a Chihuahua trying to pass as a Yorkie.... *sigh*.

So she won't come near me (my husband picked her up from the groomer), but she would go to him to lick his hand and even fell asleep on him, but was SCARED OF ME! I'm her Mommy who is a housewife here with her 24/7!!!!!! My husband did not understand how I was crying over how she was acting toward me.

So finally, he coerces her over to sleep on my lap (this is about five hours after she got home) and then she seems semi-okay. Here we are 7-8 hrs later and she is finally following me around *a little* again.

But nothing like my old baby.

SOOOOOO... I look at her paws......her nails are cut so far down to the root of the nail I want to scream and cry!!!!! Her black nails that should be filed down to black are WHITE.......and if that isn't enough, her bum is slightly bloody exteriorly!!!!!!!!!!! (these are things I only noticed when she finally trusted me enough to pass out completely on top of me, which normally, I am her number 1 person!).

I know there is nothing I can do against this groomer except leave bad online reviews...which like I said, the first time we brought her there, it was amazing....but this time? Her hair is almost shaved OFF (not what I wanted , obviously).....it is uneven everywhere, her nails are cut painfully low (this part makes me want to cry imagining the pain she went through!) and her bum and *hoo hoo* are both cut way too low and strange looking as well.

So.............. my question to you all is, what can I do to make her feel better???!!!! And maybe....How do I stop feeling so guilty???!!

I love this little dog as if she were my own child born from me...and I know that sounds super strange...but it's true.....

Any advice????????

Why is it so hard to find good groomers? The first groomer I took Tobie to, left a dog unattended on the grooming table right there in front of me when I came back to pick him up. I took him to a different place the next time and his hair did not look good. I just want to find a groomer that will treat my baby how he is treated when he is with me and who does a great job on his hair. Is that so much to ask? I'm sorry for your bad experience, I hope next time you can find a better groomer and I hope that your baby is back to her old self in no time.

I'm sorry your baby did not have a good time there. maybe you can try to learn how to groom her yourself? It's really not that hard. Like someone once said on here, "Why should I have to pay someone to mess up my baby's hair? I can do that myself for free!" Since you are a stay at home mom, then you can just do a little at a time, take your time. Make it a fun experience for her, and it can be a bonding moment.

I groom Uni myself, she has never been to the groomers. I am growing out her hair now, and she's so easy to groom, just a weekly bath, daily brushing, I don't have to worry about cutting or shaving bc i'm trying to get her hair longer.

I'm so sorry that happened. We all know exactly how you must feel. The white on her nails is the stuff you put on them to keep them from bleeding. That had to hurt a lot. I would put something on her bum so it won't be so sore. It will probably even begin to itch after the hurting stops. That poor little girl. That will probably sour her on all groomers. I hope she's ok after awhile. Let us know how she does, ok?

Also i think you should call the groomers and tell them why you won't be back!

Aww..poor lil girl.I would try to cut her from now on too.Hopefully this experience does not create a problem grooming her from now on.My one girl had a bad nail experience with nails at the groomers and she still gives me fits 4 1/2 years later cutting her nails. After that I decided I will just do all the grooming myself!

My groomer comes to our house. I wouldn't have it any other way.
She is the best and an excellent reputation. We live in England.

Sounds like your little one had a traumatic experience poor little love.
Hope she's soon better.

I'm so sorry Maybe because you dropped her off she is afraid you will do it again cause from the sounds of it her experience was bad and your hubby 'saved' her, at least to her. Poor thing. It's so hard to find a good, trustworthy groomer. I have groomers come to my house, if ever but i usually just do it myself.

Aww, I am so sorry to hear about your poor baby. I am not a fan of pet groomers; Jimi has been to one, and he will never go again. I agree with everyone else, if at all possible.. you should groom yourself. It saves alot of money.

Your baby probably felt like you sent her to hell or something.
If I were you I would go back to the groomer and tell them off. And ask for your money back! You should always go with your dog to the groomer.
I don't know how it is there in the states, but here in Manila you can watch your dog while it's being groomed, so if I see something I dont like I tell them right away. I hope your baby will be herself again soon.

Sorry to hear that your little one was having a bad time at the groomer.

My baby had his first haircut yesterday and it was done by our breeder. We were waiting and watching her trimming his hair and nails and I could tell she is very professinal. She jokingly told us that Sandy wouldn't 'talk' to us after the grooming before she started trimming his hair. He certainly didn't like it that much in the beginning but she managed to calm him down and Sandy just stood there and let her do anything!

I am so sorry to hear this. It seems to be epidemic now. You take your pup to the salon and they come back as if they have been tortured.
I do not take mine to the salon anymore as this happened to me once and that was enough. I taught myself how to cut their coats and nails, that way I know what is happening to them.
Give your little one lots of love and time....

Aww, so sorry to hear this I can completely relate though. When I took Harley to the groomer the very first time, I was so nervous about leaving her there. I gave the groomer specific instructions on how I wanted everything, and even brought along her honey so that if she got nervous or scared, they could give her a few drops. I explained that this was more of a comfort to her than anything. The guy kind of laughed at me and said "Honey she aint goin to be here that long." I immediately felt a bad vibe about this guy, but against my better judgement left her anyway because I was due for a doctors appt and only had about 15 min. to get there. When I picked her up, she was terrified but also glad to see me. I freaked when I saw that he did the exact OPPOSITE of what I told him to do...not cool. In all honesty, I believe it was done on purpose as in addition, he placed a bandana on her instead of a bow....he KNEW she was a girl! Then he proceeded to tell me that she was squirming in the tub and trying to jump out, so the idiot decided he'd try to "scare her into staying in"....I'm not kidding, that is what he told me and actually demonstrated what he meant. Basically he allowed her to jump out and then caught her right before she hit the floor!! Why on earth you would tell a client that, I do not understand. Best believe, mama bear came out the woods!! I went off on him, in front of 2 other customers, 1 of which was there for the first time, and decided to turn around and leave due to what I went through.
When I got her home, she wasn't herself at all. She did want to be with me, but it was different, she was scared. She also had clipper burn so her bum was bothering her. Never again did I go back and I actually typed up a complaint and posted it at my vets office bulletin board, as they're actually the ones who referred me to this groomers. Get this, the guy who did this, WAS THE OWNER!
Unbelievable! But anyway, I've since found a great one which Harley loves and have had no problems. She's actually excited to see LaShawn when we walk in the door and gives her kisses
