| Moving Across States From Calif to Tenn, Need Advice Hello to all; I was wondering if anyone has traveled across the states with their animals and would have any advice on making this as pleasureable as possible. We will be moving from California to Tennessee at the end of November.. We are driving our own vehicles.. I have my animal family with us and want to know of any Pet Friendly Motels, Camp Grounds or such that will accomodate us. We have a tent trailer that we are also pulling and my pets have their own crates.. I just need any suggestions or advise to make this easy for everyone. Also are their any Tennessee Yorkie Pals to make new friends? Any advise on how the weather is from California to Tenn.? Any info, advice or new friendships would be fabulous!! I guess I am just nervous!! We have never taken such a big leap before and I am excited and scared at the same time. We are also looking to rent for a little while.. Is there anyone in Tennesse that could suggest where to look or give info.. Thank you so much!!!

| Here is another good source for traveling with our furbabies: http://www.tripswithpets.com/index.asp We recently went on a week roadtrip with our 8 months old Yorkie. We stayed in Residence Inn by Marriott. The website is great for list of places that are pet friendly. |

| Why are you leaving us here in CA??? We'll miss you. Good luck. I was going to recommend the pet site, but someone beat me to it. Know that ALL Motel 6's and Sheraton's (direct, not subsidiaries, aka W) allow pets. Usually with no limit. But what they don't know won't hurt them! Especially if you are only passing through for one night. Drive safe!

| hi, i'm sorry you're leaving sunny california, but you'll also like tenn. i'm right next door here in nc...tenn is beautiful too. probably going to be a little different accent than you're used to, lol, which i love! i wish you luck with your dogs during the move...just stop and let them out as often as you can, don't over feed them alot of treats during the car ride time and take some nutri cal with you incase they do get car sick. give them lots of water, dogs will get hotter when they are nervous. good luck and let us know how it goes |

| In my experience and from other postings on this forum - Yorkies are very good travelers! We went on a 3600 mile trip with Rowdy this summer and he did absolutely great! In my experience, you should plan ahead if you are going to stay in hotels - not all will take pets, so if we were staying in a hotel, then we made reservations in advance. You will have no problems at RV parks - you just have to keep all pets on a leash. The other thing that you have to plan for is eating since it's not a good idea to leave them in a vehicle. That means you are eating lots of picnic lunches and drive throughs. We carry and ice chest for food or when we are RVing, we eat out of our travel trailer. It is cool enough that you might be able to leave them in your car for a few minutes to run in some place, but they usually get so anxious when you leave them. I used little plastic containers with lids for food and water in the car - but Rowdy does not eat much when we are traveling - I always worry so much about his eating, but he is not using up as much energy as he is not runnign and playing - so I guess that is why. We usually end up feeding him people food some when we travel (I think he knows that and holds out for the canadian bacon on an egg mcmuffin!). Since their schedules are disrupted, and they may not eat well, you may see some loose stools, but we only had that happen once with Rowdy. My experience - and others have agreed, is that they sleep most of the time. My mom keeps her dauschaund in a crate while traveling, but we let Rowdy sleep in the seat between us. We put down a blanket and brought his favorite toys. He would play for about 5 minutes, and then pass out for the next 5 hours! If you don't know whether or not they will be car sick, it might be good to go to the vet and get something for motion sickness, just in case. One thing to be careful of is the trash that is everywhere on the ground when you stop to let them potty. You don't have any idea of the trash on the ground till you walk a little dog who wants to sniff and/or pick up everything! Be especially careful of cigarette butts and chewing tobacco - they are very toxic. I think they are wonderful travelers, you just have to do some preplanning to make things go like clockwork! Good luck!!!

| I know all Red Roof Inns take pets. I think all campgrounds accept pets or else why would you camp?
