| Has not walking Tobey daily made his muscles weaker?? Let me start by saying, Tobey is 3 years old and has been jumping up in my bed multiple times a day for all but the first three months of his life. All of the sudden about 2 weeks ago, he started acting like he couldn't jump up there anymore. He would hop and hop like he was trying to jump but couldn't. When the weather turned colder this year, I basically quit walking him. He is potty pad trained and used to get alot of exercise from running around our backyard, but I moved a year ago and now have an apartment. the only real exercise he gets is the walks a few times per week that I used to do, but with the cold weather, that has stopped. Do you think his lack of exercise might have made his muscles weaker and that is why he acts like he can't jump up on the bed by himself anymore? Or am I just a crazy mom and really he is fine? Maybe I should just brave the weather and take him for a few more walks.... brr!

| Maybe if you play fetch with him on the floor? Most, if they like to bring back toys you throw, will do it for as long as your throwing arm can last. |

| If anything physical it sounds more like stiff joints to me, it takes longer than a season to really lose enough muscle mass to effect a dog noticeably. The cold weather combined with less exercise can lead to temporary stiff joints, just like it does in humans. Nothing serious really. You can try giving some extra virgin coconut oil and unprocessed sea salt, but better weather and more frequent walks should take care of itself on its own. But who knows, maybe he just wants to be held? :3 |

| My guess is he likes you picking him up. My Yorkie Katie is like this too. You could just ignore him until he jumps up himself. Or is it very high? Perhaps he needs a little step. |

| Has your vet ever checked his knees for luxating patellas? Yorkies are prone to them and jumping on and off furniture can aggravate or even cause them. That might explain why he doesn't want to jump anymore. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | It's possible his muscles are weaker. We lose muscle tone when we don't use them, I don't know why it would be any different with dogs. He might also be playing you, or there is a health issue involved. Figuring it out can be a challenge.

| In humans, the less you exercise, the more your muscles weaken-maybe this is the same in dog. I would try and play fetch or ball with him. I also chase mine all over the first floor of the house and then turn around and let them chase me. Hot Rod has loved this ever since we've had him. You could also make an obstacle course for them to run around...this will help with him to think too. Good luck and on top of everything else, the exercise will good for you too, I know I can use every bit I get. lol

| my bed is a little high but i have an overturned laundry basket with a quilt covering it that acts as his step. he jumps on the basket and then just hops like he is trying to jump to the bed. the weird thing is, when i am not on the bed, he doesn't have a problem usually. but its happening more at night when i am in the bed and he has gone to get a drink or something and is trying to get back up. he will sit on the basket and whine too after a few attempts at jumping but the minute i go to reach for him, he hops down to the floor. Its annoying to me because sometimes i am asleep and he wakes me up whining but then won't let me pick him up and bring him on the bed. i have to lay there awake, coaxing him to jump on the basket and put his front paws on the bed so i can reach to pick him up. maybe he is just a baby.

| It's possible he has put on a little weight over these cold months, and it is actually harder for him to jump....I'd also check out the LP...If he has it, you will have to stop him from jumping, and lift him...All the best to you both! |
