| sires death has me worried Gatsby's breeder called today out of no where i haven't heard from her in a year she told me to take Gatsby to the vet and have blood work done because his sire just died of kidney failure. he had blood work done in july but she said go and have more done and have work done every 6 months because his sire was fine until about a month ago then he went down hill fast she even said she would pay for it she is scared thear was a genetic problem because her house and yard is extreame baby/puppy proof she has a 1 year old granddaughter should i be worried or just wait and see what his necropsy reveles his sire was only 3 years old

| Try to not worry (I know that is silly to even say) but don't look for something that may not be there. Hugs.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Try not to worry until you know more. I had a puppy I got from a great breeder that had congenital kidney failure at 6 months and the nephrologist said it was just something that happens and that it had nothing to do with the parents or genetics. The parents were both healthy and are still alive. So while unfortunate that the sire passed it may be something that will not affect your baby. I am hoping Gatsby will be just fine.

| I don't have any advice to give you I just wanted to let you know that we all will be here for you and will praying that your baby is fine. I know it's worrisome but at least the breeder called you to let you know so you can be prepared. (so many bad breeders would never have called and hoped you never found out). Teresa |

| Had Gatsby's breeder had bloodwork done before breeding him to make sure he couldn't pass on any genetic condition to his offspring? Was everything normal then? As the others have said, at this point all you can do is wait to see what the necropsy said. Even if his sire did die of a genetic kidney condition, it doesn't mean Gatsby inherited it. Gatsby's been neutered, right? Never sired puppies himself? |

| I would say you had a responsible breeder, even if you got your sweetie as a grad gift. Wishing you the best for your little one! |

| Gatsby's sire was a Yorkie, right? Mom was a Chihuahua? According to the health survey done by the YTCA, juvenile renal failure isn't that common in Yorkies. Health Survey 2007 |
