Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ASPCA Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) In addition to donating for our fellow humans, there will also be donation needs for our fellow fur creatures. I received this from the ASPCA and thought I'd post the info, in case anyone is interested ---> Dear ASPCA Supporter, With hearts and minds focused squarely on the devastating earthquake that occurred in Haiti on January 12, the ASPCA extends its full support to those organizations providing humanitarian relief in the ravaged island nation. Soon, the animal victims of this disaster will need help, too—that’s why the ASPCA has joined the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH). ARCH was created to address the needs of animals in Haiti in this time of crisis. The coalition is headed by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), and in addition to the ASPCA, consists of a number of animal welfare groups including American Humane, Best Friends, the Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International. The ASPCA has joined ARCH with the belief that partnering across organizations is the most effective way to address the serious and enormous problems facing animals in Haiti. There are an estimated 5 million head of livestock in the country (mostly goats), a large stray dog population, and an untold number of companion animals and native wildlife all adversely affected by the earthquake. Currently, a team of experts in animal emergency response is staging in the Dominican Republic waiting to get into Haiti to begin work. IFAW and WSPA have also begun to stock a mobile clinic with vaccines, antibiotics, bandages, food and other supplies in anticipation of bringing direct aid to animals. The ASPCA has committed to providing logistical support to the disaster responders from the U.S. In addition, the ASPCA stands ready to deploy highly skilled and specially trained members of our own Field Investigations and Response Team to the area. As part of ARCH, the ASPCA is raising funds that will go directly towards the animal welfare Haitian relief efforts being provided by the ASPCA, IFAW, WSPA and other ARCH members. If you would like to contribute to these efforts, please donate here.

| thank you for posting this. the devastation there is, of course, heartbreaking. death tolls are projected to surpass 200,000 now and the situation is getting worse due to logistical and distribution problems. obviously, the people need our help. even so, i have thought a lot about the animals and mentioned it to someone last week. they acted like i was being an idiot for even thinking of animals at a time like this. so thank you for the information.... it is so nice to know that we can do our part to help them, too.

In my humble opinion, there is nothing wrong w/ *caring* about humans, and *caring* about animals - in other words - there is nothing wrong with CARING. I do think it's a little odd for someone to judge the fact that your heart not only hurts for humans, but also has room enough to be thinking right now about other issues as well. As if that is a *bad* thing....? Since when ? I think it shows you have a big heart .

| You and I are still on the same wave length! I posted this in the news section this morning! LOL. When I heard about the horrible conditions in Haiti, I must confess, I thought of the poor animals first. Mainly because I knew they would be the last to get help. Thanks for posting. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Thanks!! I too was worried about the animals of Haiti as well as the people. The shelter I volunteer at as asked if any of us are interested in going to a 2 day class where we learn how to be a first responder to help animals affected by disasters etc. I would love to take it but my Dad is very ill and I cannot commit to anything right now.
