My yorkie never sleeps! I am kinda of getting worried. At night she sleeps in her expen for a few hours but that's about it. When I go to work, I put her in her expen. I have a webcam on her so I can see that she doesn't really sleep in her pen. She may sleep for a few hours and then she spends the rest of the day trying to find ways to escape. Even if she manages to get out, she still spends the day roaming the house looking for me. It's the same at night. The expen is in my room but that still doesn't stop her from trying to get to me. Even when I put the expen in another room she barks all night. The only time when she has a good night's sleep is when she is in the bed with me. I used to let her sleep with me but even with potty pads on the floor she still has accidents so I put her in the ex-pen at night. The most she is in her ex-pen while I'm at work is two days in a row. I work from home on Wednesdays so she hangs with me all day and of course she is with me all day Sat and Sun. When I get home from work, she is so busy following me around that she will not relax. I admit it's partly my fault. Because she was a rescue who was horribly neglected, I may have showered her with too much love (if that's possible) so now she seems so emotionally needy. Any suggestions on how to help her become a little more independent and let her know that I am not going anywhere?

Do you have time for walks? If they are long she may sleep through the night. The more exercise the better!! Our dogs go to doggie daycare once a week (except for the puppy- she goes about once or twice) and the dogpark at least once a week. THat really helps! Something that worked for our second puppy (but not our first) was to play music at night. We just play the radio on low, but I know there are actual dog CD's that are supposed to sooth them. Good luck!

We go on long walks when the weather is warm in spring and summer but in the winter time....forget it. Brandi hates cold weather. She will only go outside long enough to do her business and makes a mad dash back in side. In the summer time, she gets walked twice a day and she loves it. I was thinking about taking her to doggie daycare once a week. I noticed when we were at my cousin's in Nashville for two weeks for Christmas, I started to see a change in her. My cousin has two of the most adorable dogs and Brandi even started picking up their habits. While she was still my little shadow, she would follow my cousin around every now and then. I sleep with the TV on and I leave the radio on when I go to work. Nothing seems to be able to calm her down but seeing me. I do think doggie daycare would be a good idea because I noticed a change in her behavior around my cousins dogs. Below are pics of my cousin and her dogs. The first pic is Brandi and her little doggie cousins The second pic, as you see is the reason why she is so spoiled and needy by the way she is laying in my lap Last edited by yavenay; 01-14-2010 at 06:23 PM.

Even though it's not a yorkie, I had to show this pic of my cousins dog and after his haircut. I am telling you this little guy ought to be in the movies

The really weird thing is now my cat seems to becoming more needy. They are constantly competing for my attention. My cat who I've had for 11 years, only cared about food, a clean litter box and a warm place to sleep. Every now and then, she allowed me to pet her. But lately the two of them are ganging up on me .

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Daycare can be wonderful if you've got a good one nearby. Roxy dearly loves it. She gets out of her mind excited when we pull in. I take Roxy once a week. I promise your little one will be ready to sleep when she gets home, & possilbly the next day. She will have to be current on all her shots & probably have to pass temperment/compatibility test before she is accepted. The daycare I use also has webcams so I can watch her on the internet when she is there. They have someone in w/the dogs at all times to make sure there are no problems between dogs. Dogs are free to roam & play as they one. Have heard of a couple who even do a little training too. Ours also does boarding which is a big plus for us. Check it out & see what you've got in your area. Go see them & talk to them. Good luck!

As you can see she is sleep but in about 30 minutes she will be wide awake and like this until I get home tonight around 5. I bought her one of those snuggles for her but I'm not sure if I like it yet. It looks like she can walk right out of it.
