| New puppy - male or female I'm new to YorkieTalk and have never owned a Yorkie before. I'm really looking forward to being a part of the Yorkie community. I'm going to be getting a Yorkie and have heard different opinions on whether a male or female is better; i.e., easier to train, more loyal, etc. Can anyone offer any opinions on this? Thanks! |

| Hello and welcome to YT! Good luck in your search for your new baby. This is a great place to get info on finding the right breeder and what to expect when you bring your new furbaby home. As far as male or female, they are both great. I have both and they are special in their own ways. I say get one of each! LOL

| From what I have been told they are all wonderful! We just got our first in October and I cant wait to get another. We got a little male who I plan to neuter right at 6mos (next month) we are still deciding if we want another male or try a female (I would love a little girl to dress up in pink ) Hopefully others can tell us their opinions! |

| I have a male and a female. They are both very loyal. The male was easier to train both with tricks and potty training. The female is very cuddly and a good lap dog. I think you should pick the pup you are most attracted to rather than the sex because they are all different in personality

| Whatever you get, just remember do not buy from a pet store or back yard breeder. If you can contact a Yorkie rescue in your area and save a life, not give more money to the breeders that only want your money. |

☺Farrah☺ Donating Member | Welcome to YT! I too am new and am going to choose my new puppy on Thursday or Friday this week. I'm leaning toward the female because of what I've read about the males marking and belly bands... Not something I want to get into. Good luck & please let us know what you decide!!!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I agree with Chachi, yorkies can be similar in temperaments, training ease, etc., but then there are always differences. Upon going to see puppies, most likely one will choose you, instead of the other way around. I will say of my two, Ruby is the most demanding (hence her nickname- Miz Demanding!) and persistent. But that may be because she was my first, kind of like a spoiled first born child!

My boy Reno, has never marked and we've never had to use a belly band on him, but then he was neutered early on. The only male dogs that I've had to use belly bands on were rescues from breeders.

| Thanks for all your comments. My daughter seems to really want a female, but maybe I can convince her to just find one that loves us and that we love. |

| Another question I have is about looks. We have looked at an adorable female puppy with that sort of teddy bear face that doesn't have the more pronounced snout. I'm wondering what this will look like when the puppy becomes an adult. Anyone have any photos of your own babies that started out that way? Thanks again. |

| The adult will have smaller features and more of a puppy look. That is the look I prefer. My Jewels has that look

Either way, you can't lose! Good luck with your decision! And, be sure to post pictures of your new little one when he/she arrives.
