| How long can I leave my puppy in his crate We got our first yorkie a week ago. He is 13 weeks old and his name is Mack. We are crate training him and it has been working. I have been home with him but plan to go back to work tomorrow. My husband will leave the house at 9am and put him in his crate. My daughter gets home from school at 2:30 and will let him out then. Do you think it is to long of a time span for him to be in his crate? I appreciate any advice you can give. I am new at this. It's my first puppy and I am very nervous. |

| I forgot to add that he sleeps through the night usually from 10pm to 7am in his crate with no accidents. |

| I would only suggest you leave him lots of toys to keep him amused. Today was the 1st day I left Alfie who is 15 weeks. I was only gone about 45 mins and came home to him barking. But i think and hope it was because one of our german shepherds barks when someone is outside and that started Alfie off. |

| I would say that may be a bit long for a 13 week old pup. Is there anyway someone could come home and let him out and be with him for a few moments in the middle of the day? Also, can you try and put him in a bathroom with a baby gate? Or have you thought of an expen? Hot Rod was in his crate for about 1 week til we got an expen. I kept his crate, pad, water and toys in there for him. I was a stay at home mom but still had errands to tend to so this way I felt more at ease know that he could potty and was able to play or sleep when he wanted. Congrats on you baby and welcome to YT.

| I am in the same boat as you, my little one is 15 weeks. She sleeps in her crate at night from 11 to 6 w/ no problems but I go back to work next week and she will have to be crated for almost 5 hours and I am a little concerned ...but I have to work so not many options. Good Luck let me know how its going!

| We have left him in the crate while we went out ( a couple of hours) and he has been fine. I have the option of bringing him to the office with me. But I want him to get used to being home alone. Should I bring him to the office with me for few weeks until he gets older and can hold it longer, or start with leaving him home now? |

YT Addict | Its so hard to leave them I hate it! but I too work for school, and have to leave at 6am and return at 3:30 pm so even though he goes in his crate at nite and does not have any accidents, I can't put him in that confined space...so we have a laundry room in the house and that is his room, his bed his food water pee pee pad, toys. Today was the first day I went back to work from break and he did wonderful he pee pee on his pad everytime about 4-5 times, ate his food drank his water and I hope he played. He is almost 15 wees old. ps becareful baby gates I came home and mine was out one day and I thought I forgot to put him up and the next day I realized he learned to jump over it...he is only 3 lbs so.....they can jump |

| I think I would suggest an ex-pen where he has the ability to get out play with his toys , put a nice soft bed, lots of toys and a pee pad and food and water.. his little bladder is soo tiny he most likely will not be able to hold it that long. You can purchase an expen or a child play yard and keep all this things in there, if your worried about your floors I would buy a shower curtain liner at the dollar store, put the crate, bed , food toys and pee pad in the ex pen.. this way he is not confinded for several hours over night and then all day long while your gone.. that seems a little excessive for a tiny pup and he most likely will have accidents in his crate! Kennel-Aire Exercise Pens - Exercise Pens - Crates & Kennels - PetSmart I have the childs play yard which is plastic, check craigslist before you purchase a new one!

| I actually use a play pen (pac-and-play) and both of our girls have done great in them. I leave a blankie to sleep on, a potty pad, toys, food and water. They each have their own play pen. I got the first play pen given to me and it worked so well we got a second when we got our second little one. They are only around $50.00 and you may be able to find one used or ask a friend. Someone may have one stored. That is how I got my first one. |
