| How can u determine what 'type' of coat your dog has? Remy is 10 months old, and I've heard so much talk about what type of coat a dog has, so that you can figure out the best way to care for and groom them. Remy's hair is pretty silky, I guess. It's not to thin but not really thick, I guess its in between. But how do I tell for sure? I'm trying to figure out the best products to use for him. Please enlighten me... |

| I'm no expert on this but I have read that you can take a picture with the flash on. If the eyes shine back green, then they have a silky coat. If it is more goldy, then it's cotton. Don't take my word for it though haha!

| If its straight and silky and doesnt matt its silk. If its thick and wooly its cotton. There is also inbetween the two that is modified

| I believe Sophie's breeder told me she had a modified coat. It is smooth, thick, soft and shiny. Not wooly though. She is just 13 months old so it may change in color for awhile but I'm not sure if the texture will change. I hope not too much because she is so soft to cuddle!

| I would like to know how early one can tell what type of coat their Yorkie has. Is it evident, say, at 12 weeks if the coat will end up silky or cottony?

| No, not really for sure at that age. You might be able to make a good guess but I think that's about it.... |

| The eye shine is a good way to tell. Also the hair on their legs & paws. If it's thick & full, it's most likely cottony. If it's thin & sparse, it's silky or possibly modified.
