| Off to the Vet We Go I need to vent. I knew it was to good to be true, after 1.5 years of boarding Sophie Kate with the same kennel we had problems over Christmas. My friend was nice enough to pick her up for me on Monday since our flight was coming in after the kennel closed. When our plane landed I called my friend and one of the first things she said is "you are not going to be happy". She said Sophie Kate smells like urine and both of her blankets are urine soaked - she is right I was not happy, not acceptable however blankets and Yorkies are washable. Well when I get a good look at Sophie Kate on Monday night after her bath I notice she has a sore on top of her head. I guess I should be happy that it appears the sore is healing but still I am upset, I want to know what happened to my dog. I called the kennel on Tuesday and the owner said she was not aware of anything could have caused the sore and perhaps Sophie has a "Hot Spot" (she doesn't. her Vet said she doubted that was the problem also). Sophie Kate is used to being in a crate, she is crate trained so I am sure she did not bump her head on the crate trying to get out. I also know that the last thing she will do is "potty" in her crate, the poor thing will hold it for hours is necessary. So today Sophie Kate and I are going to her Vet so she can check out this sore. I get so frustrated, I called the kennel everyday and no mention of a sore. From now on Sophie Kate is staying with her groomer or she is going with me, no more kennel for her. Thanks for letting me vent.

| Poor little Sophie Kate. I would be upset and want to vent too. I am glad you are bringing her in for your vet to check her out.

| I am sorry you and Sophie Kate had to go thru this. It is hard when we have to travel. Fortunately, we have not had to kennel ours. I don't think I would after reading a lot of the stories here. I hope Sophie Kates gets the all clear from the vet.

| Ugh, I feel for you and your girl. We are planning to go on our first vacation without the furbutts since 2003...I've been researching boarding facilities, but it's tough. I used to have a wonderful woman who came to the house, but she doesn't do that anymore. You shouldn't have to worry when you leave your baby with professionals. Sorry this happened and I hope all is well.

| Your poor baby! It's hard enough on our babies (and us) when we're away. Heck, it's hard enough on me when i'm at work. I don't travel for this reason. I have to go to Seattle in two weeks for work because I started a new job and I have training. I'm leaving Bailey with my parents but i'm a nervous wreck leaving him because we are attached to each other... I would be just as mad as you were and I would've seen if I could have gotten some money back by bringing in the urine soaked blankets & vet report. How upsetting!

| That's terrible. I don't like kennels. I don't trust them. How could a dog be happy in a cage anyways? Why don't you try a pet sitter? One that does it in their home. That's what I do. Even the most shy dogs are happy. They feel right at home, follow me around the house, get plenty of exercise (we go to dog parks, a reservoir, parks, etc), and get to socialize with other dogs. I've never had a dog be scared for more than the first few hours when their owner leaves. I think it really is good for the dogs. I don't use crates unless the dog is used to a crate, and will only use it when I leave. There are a lot of people who do the same thing as me, it is a lot better for the dogs and the owner's piece of mind. I send daily updates with pictures and videos so the owners always know how their dog is doing, that way there are no surprises if something happens.

| Aw, I'm sorry you're going through this. It must be frustrating. I haven't had the need to board my dogs for an extended amount of time, but the PetsHotel where I work is amazing. I took the time to get to know all of the workers and took tours of the facilities before I brought my dogs. The manager is a clean freak and they report every single little incident that occurs. The good thing is that we have a vet in the store, so they take dogs over there immediately. They also wash blankets and give baths to pups that get dirty I believe it is the same with every PetsHotel. I would never trust a non-corporate boarding facility. They have no one regulating policies.

| I feel so bad for the both of you and would be venting too! This makes me concerned IF I ever need to board little Zoey - I so appreciate everyone sharing their experiences, good and bad, so that we all can stay aware. Hope that Sophie Kate's injury is not too serious and that she (and You) recover quickly!

| Thank you all, I just got back from the Vet and Sophie Kate will be fine. We have some ointment to apply to the sore but the Vet said it is healing nicely. I am going with the in home pet sitter from now on, no more kennels. I have a dogwalker who comes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and she does pet sitting so I think I will try her next (she is so good with Sophie Kate and I know my dog loves and trusts her). Again thank you all and thanks for letting me vent.
