| A Few Question's That I'm worried about. Alright, I've got a few questions regarding some issues that my husband and I are worried about. Can ANY of you help me 1. We've noticed a little black place on the side of her bottom lip..close to the corner...that looks as if it's a scab. I don't know HOW she got it or what it is ...but it looks kinda gross and has black flaky stuff coming off of it. I don't know what it could be from.. unless our other dog nipped at her while playing with each other, but she's never yipped or showed any sign of pain or getting hurt. She acts as if it bothers her when I try to look at it gut she scratches the tar out of it. What do you guys think it could be? 2. The previous owner told us that she was first 7 months and then 9...which I'm confused on which to believe her because she's about 3 lbs and her teeth look MIGHTY small. So her age, I guess I can only go by what the woman told me. I've never owned a furbaby until now..so i'm VERY concerned. She told me that we shouldn't change her food from pedigree because that's what she's used to..but IF WE HAPPEN to..then do it slowly on a long drawn out process. (Which i'm thinking..duhhh!!, I know how finicky they're poor little tummies can be) So I guess my question is...how big do their teeth get? Her bite looks normal...but when she eats her food..she can only pick one up at a time and then carries it into our living room and chews on it for a little while before going to get another piece. Please help me because my husband and I are very concerned about her. We know a little about yorkies..but mainly from what we google search. That's another reason why he found this site for me...on which I love so much. I've got so many nice people to help . |

| I cannot tell you anything about the spot on her lip.. but it is perfectly natural for them to take a bite or two of thier food and carry it to another room to eat it peiece by piece. All of mine do the same thing. AS for the Pedigree.. I would certainly change to a better quality grain free food. Wellness, or Innova, Taste of the Wild, etc. Yes, make the change slowly, but DO make the change. Oh and the teeth of a yorkie are pretty small. I would certainly make sure she is seen by a vet just to make sure everything is okay with her. He can really help with your questions and if not, I would find a vet that will take the time to answer those very questions. PS Welcome to YT.

| Could the black, flaky spot be something sticky or "tar" like that is simply stuck in the fur? Is it a sore that keeps opening/draining causing it to scab over? Can you post a pic? As for the eating habit of getting a kibble and running into the room and eating kibble by kibble in front of you, i think is "normal". Mine Dudley does that and the past yorkie would do it too I think it's cute. hopefully you can post a pic and someone will be able to help out with the "black spot", good luck!

| Yes the carrying to food around is a yorkie thing. Don't know why they do it, but they do. If she is scratching at her lip perhaps she has a parasite. You might want to check for fleas or tics. Wipe it with a white wet paper towel to see if it is dried blood. I would also switch her to a better food, very gradually. |

I saw pictures of your Dudley and he's very cute!! I'm glad that her eating ritual is considered "normal" because I was concerned it had to do with her teeth being so small. But you're right...I'm going to change her food. I don't know quite what to get her because I don't travel 45 minutes to the nearest petsmart to get a certain brand..I'm walmart bound haha.. but I may just have to give the travel a try if I can't find something good. Thanks so much for the help It's very much appreciated! You're very kind to take the time to help ! Hope you have a wonderful New Year | |

| You're not going to find anything decent to feed her at Walmart. Out of the many brands at my Petsmart, there are only a couple that I would even consider to be marginal, so your 45 minute drive would definitely not be worth the trouble. You might have to order online to get better quality food.

| Hope you find out soon what the spot on her lip is. And I know where you're coming from on the 45 minute trip to Petsmart. Before we moved to Vegas we had the same thing. Luckily, by switching her to a better quality food she'll eat less of it. Soph gets about a third of a cup of kibble a day so an eight pound bag of food will last her four to six weeks. Plus, on better food you get less poo since they're able to digest more of the kibble and it doesn't just go in one end and out the other and what you do get isn't as stinky. |

| Also, kibble (hard food) is better for her teeth than the wet, but raw food is even better. If you have to feed wet, then be sure you brush her teeth after feeding. You can get a lot of information on dog foods in the board section on "Health and Diet." In regards to the black spot, you need to get it checked by a vet. Black spots on dogs on mucous membranes could be melanoma, so just to be safe get it checked out.
