| Could You Save "ONE" Yorkie's Life? I've been thinking about posting this for awhile now and it's come to the point where I just can't NOT do it...if it saves just one life...it'll be worth it! So, here it is...I am a Foster Mom through Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue and like so many Rescue Organizations these days...we have more Rescue doggies than Foster Mommies or Daddies. I know it's a bad time out there and tough economics have been thrown into the mix but, why should these little guys & gals have to suffer needlessly because of it So...here's my question to all my YT pals...if you could, would you save a life and join forces with our rescue group and PLEASE volunteer as a Foster Mom...even just "one" time? If just one person fostered just one time for one little Yorkie...think about all the good you could do...even if you only did it once! Of course, I doubt many could do it just once as I found out quickly after my first foster experience. - Did you know that a foster usually stays with you on a average of less than 3 months? The cuter & younger the dog, the faster they are adopted. This is just an approximate time & not a guarantee. Many factors play into making an adoption successful. Here's what a Foster Mom/Dad is responsible for: • A safe & clean home with an enclosed backyard or patio. • Food & Water • A Doggy Bed to sleep & nap in or even better…Foster Momma/Daddy bed! • Some walks around the block…that’s what your other hand is for…another leash! • Companionship & Socialization between you & maybe your other Yorkie(s)! • Vetting/Transportation when & if the need arises...usually does. • Interviewing Adoption applicants & finalizing Adoption! Presently, we have a great need in California (Northern & especially Southern) for Foster homes to open their doors and hearts…even if it’s just one time! If you or even someone you know has the ability to pay it forward for just one of many Yorkies in need…please send me a pm and I’d be happy to help you help YTNR! It could be as simple as that…just imagine, "one" wayward Yorkie in need that you could help find his/her forever home…in maybe less than 90 days! YTNR Volunteer Application Page

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Great post! Fosters / Rescues are so incredible! And you are *so* correct --> right now, shelters and rescues are absolutely overwhelmed with adoptable animals. I also couldn't agree more in making such a gigantic difference in "one" life...because that animal's one life is so precious...all you have to do for proof is look at one of your yorkies/pets - and you instantly know the extent of how priceless that one life is.

| I am such a sucker for helping the animals. I keep leashes and a foldable crate in my car and pick them up off the streets all the time. Hubby just rolls his eyes when I run to the corner store and come home with a pitt bull in the back of the car! If I go by them and can't stop for some reason I can't get them out of my mind. I bring them home and do everything I can to find thier home or if they don't look as if they have had one I take them to the no kill shelter if I can't find them a home on craig's list first. I would love to be a foster mom and help the Yorkies but with the times being what they are I can not afford the vet costs it would take with most foster babies. If I could help in other ways such as help with transportation or picking up from shelters or such I am more than willing.

| This is so true~I know just how some parts of the country have been over run with the need for foster homes. Like California is isn desperate need so it Texas. It is unbelievable that so many little ones are cast off or dumped. It really just boggles my mine to think of not giving total love to these precious little ones. Please~please help if you can open your heart and home to a rescue it is truly the most satifying thing that you could ever do.

| Thank you Ann for confirming my convictions about this need! So far tonight, I've already had one YT member in IL express an interest in fostering. Like I said...it just takes one person to make a difference in one Yorkie's life even if it is just one time! Come on YT members...think of what you all could do!

The only expenses doing rescue for a Foster Mom is usually dog food, a harness & maybe a dog bed. These are also tax deductible, too! I will admit to spoiling my Foster's a bit more than most get but, while I can...I will!

{I think you already know me and hubs can't take in a yorkie at the moment...you probably noticed we just rescued a *rather* large dog . I think we're at our limit at the moment...}

| It is so heartbreaking to see how many dogs are in the shelters right now. I hope this will encourage others to volunteer in any way possible and foster like you said even if its only one time. Fostering has been one of the most rewarding things Ive ever done.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Oh I *wish* we could foster some babies who need help! It's something I definitely would like to do when I'm older. It's not even a remote possibility right now with my mom being sick and such (and we have a very large yard that isn't fenced in). But when I'm living on my own I absolutely want to. Eventually I'd like to foster children too. Thank you so much for giving some people this opportunity. I think there are a lot of questions that people have about the foster care "system" for pets and this thread will be great for answering some of them!
