| i feel like my yorkie hates me he's 10 weeks old and i just got him wednesday. we've bonded and he always seemed to really like me. he always followed me and came to me when i called his name. but i wasn't saying "no" firmly enough and he wouldn't obey. lately, i've been saying no more firmly. today, i feel like he's giving me the cold shoulder. he keeps trying to bite and and when he's not, he doesn't really respond to me when i call him. i don't know if this is normal or he just hates me now. help |

| He's so young...give it time...he's got alot of growing up to do...some puppies take longer to grow up...we have had Yorkies for over 16 years, and have had numerous litters...some dogs act strange, some are loving at birth...some take more time..give him time. You both have to learn what makes each other tick...once he does you will have a loving friend for life. Good luck and just love him and don't ever stop. |

| If he's only 10 weeks old, the biting thing is just a phase. You'll have to teach him not to do that. If he bites, yelp (like a dog would) and I guarantee he'll stop right away and just look at you like "Huh? OOPS!" He doesn't hate you - he's just a puppy and is learning boundaries and everything else.

As for learning his name, just say his name over and over. When he looks at you, give him a small piece of a treat. Say his name again until he looks at you, then give him another small piece of treat. Eventually he'll associate his name with food and learn to pay attention when you say his name. Also, for awhile, when you talk to him, try to use his name as much as possible.

| give it time, puppies have super short attention spans. you'll grow to get to know each other. the biting will end, just do the yelp thing like you've already heard, it'll help discourage adult biting. |
