| What is the perfect number of yorkies? Just wondering about other's opinion. What do you think is the perfect number of yorkies to have? I would love to have a houseful, but I was wondering what other's opinions are. Thanks!

| I think 2 are a good #. One for Daddy and 1 for Mommy. I have 2 cats also though

| My personal opinion - I think the most I could have would be 3 at a time. Preferably two though. My reasoning is because I do so much with Jackson and I can't imagine having so many dogs that I couldn't do that with. We go to the dog park many times during the week, we go for walks every day, we go for car rides often, he's my "best friend" and if I had more than 2 or 3... I just don't think I could do that. I can only give so much love, attention and money to my dog(s) fairly. I think if I was going to have a lot of dogs, I would need help to give them sufficient exercise and discipline. I would never own more dogs than I can walk at 1 time.

| I have 5 (2 males and 3 females) and I'm beginning to think that is too many. I love my babies but I should have stayed with 2, so much easier.

| I think it depends on many things. First of all, you need to have the funds to take care of them. That includes food, of course, but also regular vet checks and emergency back-up funds. Then there is the grooming. If you can do it yourself, there is only the ititial cost of clippers, table, supplies, etc. But if you take them to a groomer, that is an on-going expense. If you have the expenses covered, then I think you should look at your lifestyle. Do you stay home all the time or like to travel? Do you work all day? Do you live alone or with a spouse, roommate, children? How do they feel about dogs? Can they handle multiples or would one or maybe two be best? If you have a houseful, what would happen if you wanted to take a vacation? What if you get sick and can't take care of them? Who is going to come to your house and Yorkie sit? If you work, probably 2 would be good so they could have company. I just have one, and here is why: - I can take her with me most of the time. If I absolutely have to I can sneak her in a purse. - It is easy to go visiting. Not many people want you to show up at their house with 2 or 3 dogs. With just one, I can put her on my lap or put down a blanket and give her a bully stick to keep her occupied. I keep her on a leash so I can fully supervise. No piddles on their carpet or chances of her getting into gum or chocolate or escaping out the door. - At our house I will know who the culprit is. (pooping, peeing, tearing up toilet paper, etc) Two are like children. They will do things they would never think of alone. (Bubba did it, not me!) When the mailman arrives, or strangers come to the door, I can grab her up easily and calmly tell her it is okay and to quiet. Two or more set each other off. One starts it and the others follow -- yap! yap! yap! - With one they get all the attention. But you have to make sure they get socialized well and remember that YOU are their playmate most of the time. When it is their wild time of the day, it it YOU that needs to play chase, hide & seek and all that. These are the basic reasons I have an only child. I think about it a lot because I would love to have more. I see all the people on YT getting puppies and rescue pups and I get very VERY jealous. I am trying to control myself. Don't know how much longer I can resist! When you tell people you are not going to do something, you usually turn around and do the opposite! But for now, Daisy will remain a member of the "Spoiled Rotten Club."

| I think two is the perfect number. I have three and it is a little hectic at times, it is more difficult taking three out at once.

| I had to cockers. StArted out with one and then adopted a former show dog. It was challenging to say the least. Higher grooming cost, so I learned to do it myself. Higher vet expenses etc but that didn't bother me. My partner didn't like dogs so two was a bit much . I still think two is the ideal number but I'm good with one yorkie . He has a kid to keep him happy and I like not having so much poop clean up duty . |

| There have been a lot of good points mentioned in this thread about pros and cons of having more than one. I have three myself. My Annabelle is almost 2 and the pups are 19 weeks old. I personally love having three but I do agree that they can go crazy every so often! A ball of furry we call those times. LOL Its so much fun watching them run around and play. If you have more that one that its a great idea to look into doing grooming yourself. I can't even imagine my costs if i had to groom all three plus I like having control over how they look (well once I get the grooming thing down. hahaha :-) The vet bills can be a lot. Luckily, I've only had to cover the basics but the more yorkies you have, the more chance you have of ending up with one that may have an illness....and I'm sure most of us here would probably ending up paying what ever we had to in order to help our babies. Having more than one is totally a personal decision. You've just got to have the time, patience, finances and energy to devote. Three is the perfect number for me...at least for now :-)

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | We don't have skin babies and no plans to. So, ALL of our time is for our fur babies. We dont vacation, unless they can go along. We havent had a trip for 3 years and we are planning a trip to Disney World in Florida as soon as they finish the Doggie Day Care. They take alot of my time, caring for them. But they are my children, so I love doing it. I dont walk the dogs alone, my DH is with me. One of us has had 1 in hand the other 2. Now we will both have 2. (when Jazzy arrives) I do think a responsible person needs to ask all those questions to themselves. If they can care for multiples financially and emotionally, I say go for it and have as many as you think you can handle. Just be honest with yourself, and dont take on more than you can handle. When I had 1, it was hard. When I added Bayleigh, it became so much easier. When I added Brewster, he fit right in. They hang out all the time together. It is so much fun! Bath day is probably the craziest around here. LOL Last edited by BaxtersMommy; 12-27-2009 at 07:55 AM. |

| kennel cost oh yeah. there is one thing I am not looking forward to...the kennel cost when we go on vacation. Its like paying for two vacations in one. I wish I had family that could watch them while we are gone since we can't take them with us. :-(

| I currently only have two, but could see myself adding a third at some point. My parents also have two dogs and I visit them quite often, so when I am there... we have four dogs (and 2 cats)... it really is not that difficult. The money is obviously a concern, vets, groomers, etc. However, I think it is a misconception that people who have multiple dogs can never go on vacation or leave their homes... by having four we are able to feel less guilty when we leave because they are all together and have plenty of other pups to play with. If only one of us goes away, the other watches all four and all is good. If we all go away, we have a great lady who comes to the home and watches the pets... they are all here together and are always fine when we get home. We have taken all four of them away with us numerous times, they all even went on a 12 hour car trip, they all slept quietly and were very well behaved in the hotel room, they didnt bark or make any noise at all, this all has to do with training... yes you cant pick 4 dogs up and tell them to be quiet but you can train them to sit and be quiet all by themselves. Obviously multiple dogs means a lot more work in the training department but if you can handle the training... you can have a whole group of well behaved, happy, well traveled, little furbutts and have a life of your own |

| Well, I have to go to work, but just popped in to check this thread...After reading all of them, so far, it looks like 2 might be the optimum number ...I'm glad to hear that, because it makes me stop and think, sensibly about getting another...Will be looking in, again, this evening, after work.... |
