Donating YT 1000 Club Member | The Crazy Pit Bull 3 houses down! So we recently got a new neighbor 3 doors down. I have come to the realization that his dog is crazy. I know there have been many threads here about Great Pit Bulls, that is good and all. This one, clearly has issues. Our first introduction was when we were out back on our next door neighbors driveway. They have a Sweet Boxer that goes everywhere with them, they dont always have him on a leash and I know they probably should. But, he is such a good boy and stays right there at home. Duke was getting in the car and this pit came running out of no where charging him. My husband was mad! They chased him off. Well, Christmas Eve my brother was here and when he left to go out to his car there was that pit bull again. He was right by my brothers car and would not let him in the car. He was growling with his ears back. My brother called us on the cell phone to come out. My husband had a fit that this dog was loose again. So my DH starts walking to the owners house, before he knew it, the dog was on the front porch of his house. He would not let me husband ring the door bell. He was growling barking and jumping like he would charge him at any minute. I know if he does, my DH will kill him in his tracts. I am not worried about our yorkies, they are never in the yard unsupervised and we have a fence that is 7 feet tall and locks from the inside. BUT, what about the neighbors who have cats running freely etc. ? I am afraid he will kill one of them. Also, my DH finally saw the man who owns the dog yesterday and went up to have a conversation with him. He was deaf and just went off trying to yell something to my husband. So, that conversation went no where. The only reason I have not called Animal Control is because I dont want him to be put to sleep. But, he does not have a responsible owner who keeps him secure. So, what would yall do? I have started walking the dogs 1 at a time to the car to insure their safety and I feel I can no longer walk them. I have been taking them to another neighborhood with a park. It is very frustrating. Some people should not have kids with skin or fur!! |

| Call the answer control or the police. Here we have " Bylaw officers " and you would call their office. My hubby's ex has a pit bull mix and on two different occasions she was out and people called on them because she was acting just the same way this one is and now they got in alot of trouble! |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I know! We have many children in our neighborhood and ofcourse we are worried about their safety too. I am sorry, seemed like I was only worried about cats and dogs. I could go on and on but I didnt want a long thread. Thanks for the advice. Can I only report it when he is out? |

| I would call the cops as the dog probably won't be put to sleep. The owner will probably be given a warning for the first offense. If the cops have to come out a second time, the owner will get a fine and they will probably take the dog away. But, how many times does an owner need to be warned? We have a dog in our neighborhood that used to terrorize us. The cops came out, gave the owner a warning and told the owner, the next he would be fined and the dog would be removed. Seems fair to me. Keep the dog fenced/leashed.

| I have to agree. You should call and report this. As careful as we can be, acciddents still happen. I don't think would be able to overpower the charge of any large dog if it came at me or my furbaby even if I was just walking to the car. It is not fair you and your dogs are restricted in thier activity or inconvenienced because of this dogs activity. |

| Report it to Animal Control. They won't kill the dog, but they may lock it up and the owner will have to pay a fine to get it back. Maybe that will be enough to make them keep their dog under control. The dog has already gotten loose several times, and you need to establish a formal record with Animal Control to start documenting the problem. It is only a matter of time before the dog hurts another animal or a human, possibly even a child. You do not want that on your conscience, thinking you might have stopped it if only you had made a report earlier.

| I don't care what anyone says...I hate pitbulls. I've stated on YT that I believe that they are God's biggest mistake. I'd try calling the cops but it may not do much good. The owner obviously does'nt give a flip. Also don't assume your babies are safe in your yard. Pits can and will dig under fences. Good luck, you'll need it.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Gosh, that sounds really frustrating and potentially dangerous . I can only say what I'd do at this point...so...do you mean he is "deaf" literally, or figuratively, bc I wasn't totally sure....? If he *is* actually deaf, then what I'd do since this man may have limited verbal communication (and may not be able to read lips) is I'd write a kind, factual letter explaining things...and the consequences you're planning if the situation isn't somehow made more safe for the surrounding humans and animals. You could even make it anonymous. You could mention that if it seems like things aren't improving in the immediate future, you would be very sad to be forced to report the safety issue to authorities....and blah blah. And wish him well and stuff . That's what I'd do, for whatever it's worth. I hope it all works it. Very scary to have unprectable creatures in the 'hood...canine or otherwise, eek!

Yes, the man is deaf. Very good idea to write him a note. This explains to me why he doesnt hear him growling and carrying on. So, I called Animal Control they told me to call them when he is out. If they catch him out they can take care of it. Otherwise, there is really nothing they can do (unless he has hurt someone). I called my immediate neighbors and told them about him so they will keep their children and pets inside. I am going to call the police department and report something as well. | |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | My DH recommended I call tomorrow and see if someone else answers the phone. Some people just could care less, he said I might should ask for someone in charge. At any rate, I dont feel comfortable leaving it alone. So, I might just have to continually call them until something is done. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I would say call and make a report. I Do Not believe that all Pitt bulls are evil baby eating monsters, but people who do not take the time to be responsible dog owners are the monsters! If after the warning from the authorities are brushed off and the dog is loose again then yes please call the authorities. I understand, where I'm currently station people Never tie their dogs up and they wander free!!! I can't walk Ares and Tank near my home. It is very frustrating! I hope this issue is resolved soon!
