| New Owner to Yorkie I'm a new member to owning a and to this site. We picked her up today thanks to my Husband buying her for me for Christmas. I'm just wondering if 9 months is considered a puppy still since she's still semi small? Also... I've read the guidelines on how to work with your yorkie and train them..i'm working on that with little things but my main question is..What's the best way to make her first couple of days seem comfortable to where she wants to get to know my husband and I & become apart of our family? Thank you so much for the help. |

| Hi and Welcome to YT. How sweet of your DH (dear husband) to get you a Yorkie for Christmas!! I think they are puppies maybe until they are a year old, but don't know if there really is a "cut-off" just like babies, when are they not babies anymore? Mine is 22yrs old. lol! They like to play! that is a good way to bond. get a toy and play tug of war. Or play fetch, or chase. I actually get on the floor with mine. (creek, creek) Even when you are training them with treats, they like that and bond with you. treats=nice person. Of course cuddling and holding doesn't hurt. have a wonderful time bonding with her. Donating YT 500 Club Member | Welcome to YT! You'll like it here. Technically, yorkies aren't mature until about 2 yo, so she still has quite a bit of pup left in her. You are in for some fun!!! It will be kinda hard to do with Christmas & all, but I'd try to keep her life on the quiet side as much as possible. She has a lot of adjustments to make. Make sure she has plenty of toys to keep busy with & some healthy treats for good behaviors. There's so much to learn here, so plunge in learn lots. Have a wonderful life w/you new treasure. Congrats!!!

Thank you so much Donna for the help and information. My husband is very sweet & made our first year married a perfect one! He knew I always wanted one but knew I was upset at the fact that i'd never have the money to purchase one. He got lucky in a bulletin board here in my home town and kind of talked her down some since she was a little older than the other ones she had. Very nice owner. I'm thrilled with my pup. I know what you mean, they're always our babies. I've got cats that I still treat like kittens LOL. I appreciate your help tremendously! I like the information that's out on this site for Yorkies...it'll hopefully make me become a better owner. I hope to make friends on here...since I've gotten married...not many of my old friends seem to talk to me anymore. Oh well. Have a nice evening and I hope you have a Wonderful and Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much for the welcome! I hope to make friends on here...don't have many here at home since i've been married..but I'm hoping that'll change from being on here . Thank you so much for the help and information. You scared me a little when you said I was in for some fun haha!! Kaylee has been paper trained and outside trained...but she shakes when she's in the floor...like she's scared and hunches when I go to pick her up. I've read that this happens to some people..and it's nothing serious..but I love on her a lot to let her know she's in good hands. Other than all the other training..I am in for some fun haha! It will be hard for christmas but i'm off for vacation so it shouldn't be so hard since i've got free time here at home. Although on christmas, we're going to my parents where I've got two nieces at the ages of 4 and 1 and I'll have to keep her away from them. Thanks again for the reply..I Hope to learn alot about my new treasure and what her personality, likes and dislikes are like. It should be fun. I hope you have a wonderful christmas and happy new year!

Thank you! I'm very happy with her. She's so cute! She's better at going on the papers than our other dog..She's a terrier mixed. We saved her not to long ago from the side of the road..you could tell she was a house dog...and was house broke...but not as good as the yorkie haha.
