| Does it mean Duncan consider the birdy as somoething delicious? The birdy joined the family recently. At first Duncan doesnt really know what the birdy is. He just standed up and looked at her, observing. Just now when the birdy was having some free flying around time, Duncan looked her and licked his lips then started to chase. Does it mean he considers birdy as food now?!!!!

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | What kind of bird did you get? I have 2 cockateils and I'm scared to let them fly because of the dogs, just in case! But mine don't bother them in the cage. Is your bird tame? |

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | I had a cockatiel that I let loose once in a while with my 2 English Cocker Spaniels. I had it on my shoulder sitting on the couch when one of the dogs came up beside me and opened his mouth. I fast enough to rescue the teil so she wasn't hurt. Then someone told me that cockers are bird dogs. I did let the teil out when I had the Yorkies. As long as the tiel was flying there was no problem. But when the teil landed, I had to hurry up and beat the Yorkies to the teil. The teil did lose a feather or two when I wasn't fast enough.

| Well, we have 10 birds and 6 dogs and for the most part they all do ok together, but we do have to watch them! My smaller birds are allowed out everyday to fly around, but of course since they are full flighted the dogs can't reach them. One of them, though, has no fear and pretty much has all the dogs taught to not mess with her!! She bites them, lol! It's kinda funny to watch her walk around on the kitchen floor and the dogs just stay out of her way. My larger birds (a macaw, 2 african greys) don't fly and I watch them very carefully so if they end up on the floor, we scoop them right back up on their stands, so far so good! |

My little Sunnie.....catches sparrows and brings them inside to "play"...they don't play for very long. (one of the drawbacks for doggie doors) & My sisters' dobe got ahold of her budgie one day (she was cleaning the cage, dobe was outside, left the room, DH let dobe in..) and tried to groom him. He licked all of his feathers off. She came in the room, saw the pile of slobbery feather and called for him. Heard a little "hello" from under the ent center. The bird lived and his feathers grew back..she had to keep him warm while he was naked.
