| New Fish among you... Hello all, I'm brand new to YorkieTalk, and am purchasing my very first Yorkie (and first dog, for that matter!) next month. My family and I are so excited to be getting her! So is there any advice you can give me that would be beneficial for my newest family member? Anything you want to put out there would be helpful! I have been doing so much research on the breed, vets, groomers, training... everything! Anyway, thanks in advance and I can't wait to read what comes my way... |

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your new addition! My biggest peice of advice would be to read all the thread you can on house-breaking! It is often said that yorkies can be very difficult to housebreak, and I for one have definitely found that to be the case! My boy, Wicket, has always been good....just sits and waits by the door when he needs to go out......but my little girl Twinkle - frustrating isn't the word! She seemed to think I was psychic and would just 'know' when she needed to go outside I had to start again from scratch with her....getting her to use puppy pads first and praising her like nuts when she used them, and then moving them closer and closer to the door....encourage her to scratch at it....then move the pads outside before eventually getting rid of them altogether. I wish you lots of luck with your new furgirl.....cant wait to see pics of her when you have her home xxx
